Alright guys I bought a 2014 Tacoma trd 4x4 about 6 months ago. The truck had 65k when I bought it and it already a 3” bilstein Lift installed and 285/75/16 km2s on it. i didn’t notice the shake too bad when I bought it but it soon started getting on my nerves. The shake does not get worse as I go faster, it starts at about 45mph and gets worse and better as I drive. It’s not a consistent shake at all. I have changed the tires to ridge grappler a/t in hope that it was the mud tires riding so rough. I also had the truck lined up and both front wheel bearings replaced. The front left km2 started cupping before I replaced them, that’s why I had the truck lined up and new tires put on. It also had cheap universal .5” wheel spacers on the front that I took off and replaced them with good 1” wheel spacers. I’ve read online about the front drivers side cv axle needle bearings causing this shake after a lift. Could this be it? NEED HELP!!!

If you are driving on the highway going at least 45-50 mph (but not faster than 60) and you feel the shake you can put your truck into 4x4 on the fly and if the vibes instantly go away then you need to do the ECGS bushing replacement mod.

I just tried it and going in to 4hi didn’t seem to stop the shake.

Could possibly be a ujoint, i had one go bad near the carrier bearing and it would shake from 45-55mph and then smooth out after that

I also checked my u joints for excessive slip and they seem pretty tight.

Could it be the carrier bearing?

I recommend pulling the driveshaft and then try moving each ujoint side to side. I've found its difficult to test Ujoints while the driveshaft is still on the truck. Sometimes they will check out while it's on the truck, but once you remove the shaft, its apparent what the problem is. Yes could also be the CB. Before removing the driveshaft try moving it up and down. A little play (1/4"-1/2" is normal) but more than that is a problem

Would a bad Carrie bearing cause my steering wheel shake though?

The dealer just changed all 3 of my rear u-joints today under a service campaign. I went in for a tire balance and rotation since I had a coupon for them to do it for free. I told the advisor it has a shake when driving, next thing I know I got a call saying they were going to replace the u-joints, now it drives so much better. Might not be your problem but it solved mines.

Do you have after market wheels? Do they fit the center hubs properly?
The wheels on these are hub-centric. If the wheel isn't centered on the hub, you'll get some shaking.

It still has stock wheels. The front has 1” wheel spacers. I’m going to try a carrier bearing drop kit first, the a 3 degree driveshaft block. If neither of these work I’ll pull the driveshaft and check the u joints. I’ll update y’all when the parts come in and I try them out.

45mph and faster, and your steering wheel is shaking, could be wheel balance or worn front suspension/steering parts.

If your steering wheel is shaking it’s not your driveshaft.

what kind of wheel spacers are they?

I had the mud grips that were on it balanced multiple times and it still shook. I changed to the a/t ridge grapplers and it still shook. I had the a/t put on at different shop than I had the mud grips balanced at just in case it was the shop. The wheel spacers that were on it was a cheap universal .5” wheel spacer that just went around the studs probably bought from an auto parts store. I ordered 1” ECCP bolt on wheel spacer.

Is the wheel spacer hub centric?

I'd pull those wheel spacers off and see if it improves. My bet's on that right now. It should be easy enough to check.

I took them off and drove it this afternoon. Seems to be a little better but still a shake there.
