Toyota needs to fix this issue. This is unacceptable...

Update to my failed seat heater. I called the dealer and booked a service appointment. Then I called Toyota to submit the issue. They created a case for me and told me to bring it in to the dealer to get it diagnosed and then call back.

So I went to the appointment at the dealer, showed the melted part and explained my scenario being just outside of warranty, and that I already started a case with Toyota. They ended up giving me the diagnosis for free in the end, so that was nice. And they quoted me $533 for the repair with the new parts and labor.

I then called back to Toyota to give them the information including repair price and a few days later they got back to me saying they would cover the repair up to $550. I just need to pay for it first and then send in my invoice. So at this point the repair is all covered for my drivers side.

I just brought it in today to get it replaced, but unfortunately upon driving home I found it is still not working. I had the heat on high since I know it always gets too hot for me, but that did not happen. I called the service department to tell them and they said the tech had verified it was getting hot when he tested it. So who knows at this point. Hopefully they can find a mistake or something and fix it. Or worst case it ends up being more of a problem elsewhere in the seat? Can't really say I guess. I'm bringing it back in on Monday.

They replaced it with the same part 87501-OC020. Which I thought was interesting since it seems to be a discontinued part number. All numbers are the same as the original except for the barcode. Except font size, etc of the print on the sticker is a little different than the original. But otherwise seems to be the same. So I suppose the wiring harness is the same part as the old one (that had melted), and they just cut the wires and must have soldered it on and taped them up. Maybe that part of the job was not done well. We'll see.

    EDIT
I forgot to say that I also tested once I got home today by letting it cool down, then sit in my driveway with the seat heat on and came back 10 minutes later. The passenger seat was hot and the drivers seat was cold.

That sucks. Why doesn’t Toyota fix this issue once and for all?

This is clearly an ongoing problem since my 2013 seat heaters went out, but parts and under the seat look the exact same with even the same pin melting and failing

That’s sucks that you’re going through that also and that there seems to be some glitches but you definitely took the right avenues and the more people do this the faster it will get changed, and it will get changed just like our leaf springs. Good job

My 13 same issue. Drivers side stopped working. Amp box burnt. Grabbed passenger and plugged in and it seems to kinda work. I checked continuity and it appeared good in the lower cushion. Wondering if switch is an issue. When I plugged test light into harness and dialed switch it simple turned light on and off. Would it not dim the test light when I roll the switch to low.

My 2013 limited drivers seat heater failed... Is it the same part as 2016-2018 TSB?

Didn’t go down the rabbit hole. I got new seat covers and when I put em in I stole the ECM module outta the passenger seat and put it in the driver-side and decided fuck it let it burn down if there’s a problem I’ll go after Toyota

So when you swapped the modules did it work? The passenger module plugs into driver side fine?

Dear all, I have a 2016 Tacoma and today, after 52000 km my driver’s seat heater stopped working. I can confirm that it’s the same module and symptoms you’ve all written about. Thanks for the information, and add me to the complaints list.

OK Gang - Add me to the list of 2016 Tacomas TRD ff-Road owners that have had the drivers side seat heater shoot craps. I need to look under the seat and see if the amp appears to be fried. 47K miles so... out of warranty.

Very easy to access. About 6 inches in from the front of the seat and just over to the right

Is there anything you can do to prevent this burnout from happening? Only run the seat on low heat? Swap the module to the other side before it gets cooked etc etc
