I was leaving this evening for an event at a local gallery when I hopped into the truck and I thought there was a twig on my windshield. Much to my horror, it's a crack that had materialized on its own. There was nothing there when I parked it Tuesday night getting back from Berkeley.

I'm frustrated now I need to go and replace the windshield now, but I'd figure some of you might have had a good experience with a particular vendor.

My insurance deductible is $100. So, I paid $100 for OE glass. I have an OE rider on my policy.

It means only Original Equipment parts are used when doing any repair.

Anybody in the South Bay? Also I heard we can not use mobile repair technicians because the windshield needs to be calibrated.

Used these guys to replace glass on my '02 was done fairly quickly with great results and reasonably priced too. When I had to get glass replaced on my '18 I brought it to the dealership because of TSS re-calibration.

So if I have a 18 I should take it to the dealership to replace windshield?

I used the glass repair people that the dealer recommended. Met him at the dealership where he replaced the glass and the dealer did the re-calibration of the TSS. I'm not sure if any independent auto glass outfit can do the re-calibration? Here's a thread with the same discussion https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/windshield-repair-or-replace.599702/#post-20141999. Getting all this done was EXPENSIVE, bill would have been slightly over 1K - comprehensive deductible for me was $500 :(

Jeez, well thanks for the informative read. My deductible is only 100 so might call the dealership.

Ended up going here out of convenience and time issues, but they did a good job and changed it in less than an hour. My deductible was higher than the cost of the repair so I paid out of pocket instead.

Dealers will just end up subcontracting this out to another glass shop. Most likely their trusted glass vendor. Weirdly when I called my insurance, they recommended not going to a dealership, probably since my comprehensive was 500.

Another Alamedan! Seems like there's a few of on us on TW.

I also have a $500 deductible, but total costs for replacement would go well over my deductible because of the TSS re-calibration, IIRC, OEM glass itself was over $500 too.

I definitely see a lot of trucks around town, especially some pretty built up ones and I always wonder if they're TW members. We should try to do an Island meet up sometime.

Mine was low enough thanks to not having the TSS and not caring about OEM parts for that.
