I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I just found out today that the county is being sued for $68 million, for releasing the names of inmates in the Bucks County Prison, and allowing them to be published in the newspaper.

I don’t know what other people think, but I honestly don’t think is this is the right thing to do unless it’s the name of a sex offender/child molester being released from prison.

I would also like to point out that until fairly recently (2016-2017), the Central Bucks Regional Police Department would release all of the arrests on a biweekly basis, including the names of the suspects and where they were from. Mercifully, they stopped sharing the full names of people they arrested and only listing their gender, age, and offense.

For the longest time, the local newspaper would also share names of arrestees, under the name “Police Blotter”.

It’s public record. There is an app called Mobile Patrol that lists inmates names, photo of available, intake date, etc.
I checked Buck’s County and they only list names with no other info.

A guy I know was pulled over and initially taken in for DUI after a roadside breathalyzer showed he was over the limit. However, subsequent testing at the station showed he was under the limit and he was released without charges. However, his full name, age, and where he lived, along with a charge of DUI ended up in the paper the next morning and he flipped out. Keep in mind he never got charged with DUI. He called his lawyer if I remember correctly, but there was nothing he could do.

Well apparently they’re being sued, which means this is coming out of MY taxes...

I don’t know if I should be angry with the county or the people who filed the lawsuit.

The paper can list a correction but nobody reads that.

Some years ago in the Tampa Bay area, the Police would list the names of guys that were busted in Prostitution stings. It was surprising how quickly the number of arrests dropped within a couple of weeks...

This information is public record in my state. Mug shots too..... After you serve your time you can pay a scumbag lawyer to get your records deleted. Unless you have no money because you can't get a job because you're a convicted felon.....

Life is a bitch. If you don't want to have to do the perp-walk, don't be a perp.

This is how the vocal minority is taking over. Have your case heard in the big city. What the jury decides will now be the law of the land. I say that your right to know who your tax dollars are being spent on trumps a criminal’s right to privacy. If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.

The only thing I don’t agree with is that the guy I know did not get a DUI but the paper jumped the gun and published it anyway.

He has the right to be pissed. I wonder how many recipients of the 1000 dollar windfall will OD 20 minutes after they cash the check.

If an offense is serious enough for an arrest, it should be publicly posted and you deserve to be shamed. Its not hard to NOT break the law.

Here’s the other story I have...

In 2007 or 2008, a special needs student at my high school ended up in the paper with a disorderly conduct charge. Apparently, he fell asleep in class (happens to the best of us), and when a teacher attempted to wake him up, he did not take too kindly to it. I do not remember if he hit the teacher or pushed the teacher, or what the hell he did, but the police were called and if I remember correctly he was slapped with a citation for disorderly conduct. That poor kid, who I believe is dead now due to complications from whatever disability he had, most certainly DID NOT deserve his name in the paper
