Tackled the BHLM over the weekend. Also threw in some halos and @MESO filler plates for good measure. I think this looks great on any color, but with a white truck ita just about mandatory.

As much as those locks cost, one would think they'd provide something a little nicer than a sticky dot for dust/weather protection.

Is tailgate theft a problem with locked tailgate?

When people remember to lock it, no. I am paranoid about my tailgate, but I also keep stuff in the bed (and under the hard tonneau) that I don't want stolen.

Around here, they'll pop the lock out and still steal the tailgate. Tacomas aren't targeted as much as older full size trucks because that's what the "unlicensed independent contractors" use.

FWIW, I couldn't see the point of a remote tailgate lock if it wasn't going to also lock/unlock the hard tonneau.

The rubber flap on my tonneau needs to sit on top of the tailgate, so whenever I close the tailgate, I have to open and close the tonneau or else the flap gets wedged underneath. So I can't just leave the tonneau locked and load/unload stuff via the tailgate alone.

pop-n-lock is an easy fix to that. You can get one almost as cheap as that contraption. Or diy it for even cheaper if you have the skill set.

That's my brother's complaint about his BakFlip. Not an issue with my Extang.

I got the factory one that came with my cement. It was the only one within a few states so didn’t have a huge option. But it releases on the under side which works great with auto lock.

Fold-a-Cover G9 here. Came with the truck. Works well enough that it's not worth the bucks to replace.

    It's complicated.
But it's a great backup, when you forget to lock it.
