A lot of folks don't DESERVE to be in the paper, but it is what it is, all public information. If our deacon from church got busted driving under the influence, you can bet that his picture and charge will be on the local mugshots website.

And even there it’s controversial because in some jurisdictions, I believe it’s possible to end up on the sex offender registry if you get caught soliciting a hooker!

Now if a cop gets a DUI, that’s worthy of the papers...

Hell, if a cop gets busted for texting and driving it needs to be in the paper!

I see it as a way of keeping folks honest. If you don't want your mug all over the local mugshots website, then don't do the crime. Or don't get caught at least...

I don't know what it's like where you're at, but texting and driving is a serious issue here where I'm at. It drives me bonkers when folks are clogging up the left lane, holding up traffic, all while texting on their phone. My daughter drives on the same roads as these fuckin' idiots texting and driving. She puts her phone in the back seat when driving, so no temptation to pick her phone up. Others? They just text while eating and driving at the same time. If my daughter can do the right thing, so can anyone else. A message for those who text and drive, you're gonna kill someone one day..... Ok, rant over!

I'm in NY and the law says it ok for cops to use there cell phones while driving but not ok for an average joe. Your going to get pulled over and ticketed for the same exact thing. I dont agree with that , there should be one set of laws for EVERYONE. Around here the cops dont like waiting at red lights either, the pull up ,flash there lights for 2 seconds to go thrue the red light and then immediately turn there lights back off. I'd love to do that too but again I would get pulled over.

Oh, I hate it when people text and drive! One time my mom and I were in the car, and there was this late model sedan on our right. The driver had either an iPad or MacBook propped up on his dashboard and was watching a movie!

I installed a stereo with Bluetooth in my 2010 RC so I won’t have to worry about (A) being distracted while driving or (B) getting stopped by police in New Jersey for using my phone while driving.

Texting and driving is illegal in all states as far as I know, but a few states (including Jersey) have taken it a step further and forbidden any use of a phone while driving.

By the way, Nee Jersey sucks in about every way possible compared to Pennsylvania:

    • Draconian gun laws.
    • Virtually impossible for an average person to get a CCW permit (see above).
    • No talking on cell phone while driving (not everyone can afford to buy a car with Bluetooth or even put a stereo with Bluetooth in their 10+ year old car).
    • High taxes.
    • Did away with safety inspections but not emissions testing, so you see a lot of shitpiles driving around that are 100% legal because they passed the bi-annual emissions test (I honestly think that safety inspections should be mandatory but emissions testing should be done away with).
    • You can’t pump your own gas.
    • Roads are just as shitty if not shittier than PA’s.
    • Overpopulated!
    • That’s all I can think of anything else right now that isn’t political...

I have only seen a couple of 2nd Gen ACs with manual windows, and of course they’re always base models. I’ve never seen a 6-lug AC with manual windows.

How long were manual windows standard on the AC, because I don’t think I’ve seen one 2009 or newer without power windows and locks, even the base models. I’ve even seen 2009-2015 AC and DC base models with cruise control and Bluetooth, but still no intermittent wipers!

    I’ve also seen a 2005-2008 RC 5-lug with no A/C.

In the past, I’ve touched on the fact that I really do not like dealing with “lower-functioning” individuals. Disliking them is totally different from not wanting to deal with them, and I fall into the latter category. This includes not only people on the autism spectrum, but people with other intellectual disabilities like Down Syndrome and Mental Retardation (both simply called Intellectual Disabilities nowadays for purposes of political correctness).

Last weekend, while attending the 30th birthday party of a friend of mine who also has Aspergers, she said she didn’t much care for lower-functioning autistic individuals, and we toasted to that. This girl I know still lives at home, but she drives and has a great job.

By the way, the last unlicensed person in our group of Aspies from the Coffeehouse Center finally got his driver’s license at the age of 30! He failed the test the first time because of parallel parking (so did I), so on the night before he took the test the second time, I took him to the DMV where he would be taking it and had him go a few rounds with my Tacoma. He had been getting driving lessons in his mom’s 2009 Chevy Cobalt, which was quite easy to park, and easy in general to handle. My reasoning was that if he could parallel park the Tacoma, he could parallel park damn near anything.

I started him out with the backup camera on, and he of course nailed it. However, Pennsylvania prohibits the use of backup cameras during the test and the instructor tapes a piece of paper over it. I actually took the driver’s test in my truck years before my neighbor put in the backup camera, and my aftermarket system allows the camera to be shut off entirely. After the initial run, I shut off the backup camera and him back up the old-fashioned way (With mirrors... Oh my!).

He nailed it after probably the third or fourth try, and guess what?!?! He passed the driving test in his mom’s Cobalt the next day!

Oh, and the by the way, the Cobalt was supposed to be my friend’s car. My friend’s parents have a brand new Nissan Rogue, and the Cobalt was purchased used in CASH a few years back after their ‘97 Monte Carlo beater needed repairs that exceeded the value of the car. I told them from day one that they should have bought a Corolla and, go figure, the Cobalt is starting to fall apart with only 90K on the clock! The Cobalt is reliable and has never broken down; It has always passed inspection and A/C is ICE COLD. However, the car has been having annoying little electrical problems, and the cheap plastic interior is falling apart.

So, it was decided that my friend needed a new car; With a tiny bit of financial assistance from mom and dad, my friend scored a 2017 Chevy Trax with about 31K miles for less than ten grand!

Going back to the issue of lower-functioning individuals...

I don’t dislike them, but some of their antics make me uncomfortable.

A lot of the low-functioning autistic individuals do not really talk, and some are completely incapable of speech whatsoever; This is a well-known trait of autism. I understand that they can’t help it, but I like to talk with people. With regards to behavioral quirks, some of the ones who don’t talk resort to other methods of seeking attention. One notable example was at lunch in 8th grade; This Asian kid with severe low-functioning autism was sitting next to me at the table, and he impulsively started kneeing me in the side. His teacher said that this was a bad habit of his, and was finally forced to move him to another seat when I started to get pissed.

There was this Indian kid (India not Native American) named Babek. I can pronounce his name but I do not remember how to spell it; In the 2002-2003 yearbook, his name was incorrectly listed as “Babar” (like the elephant). While Babek was very friendly and much more social than other autistic kids, he came on a bit too strong. Once he learned my name, he would always yell “Hi Charlie!” across the cafeteria when I walked in for lunch. I hated this, as it drew the attention of kids I did not like to the fact that I’d just arrived.

One of the teachers attempted to get Babek to be more social by teaching him to say things like “I like your dress” or “I like your hair”. Unfortunately, Babek’s limited vocabulary meant that he always complimented this same teacher on her dress whenever he saw her, and resorted to ignoring him.

Base or SR5? I believe SR5s with crank windows ended with the first generation?

Base. Don't know the answers to any of the questions you've asked, unfortunately. Put an intermittent wiper stick in mine a long while back, fwiw.

    Is yours 2.7L/5-speed?

    @Plain Jane Taco
    @Running Man

Here’s a perfect example of why the antics of lower-functioning autistic individuals bug me.

Gym class, either 9th or 10th grade...

Another kid who’d been in Babek’s class in middle school was in this gym class. His name was Philippe (like the horse from Beauty and the Beast) and he was the son of first generation French immigrants if I remember correctly. Philippe was one of the friendlier, more talkative ones. On this particular day in gym class, which was towards the beginning of the year, the gym teacher was giving her introductory speech, and Philippe chimed in at the end of the speech by saying “and don’t talk to strangers!”

The gym teacher said something like “right, and don’t talk to strangers” to be nice.

As a general rule, the intellectually disabled kids were left alone by even the meanest of bullies, but if I remember correctly a lot of kids were trying to hide their snickers and “What the fuck?” looks.
