    you're all fucked :annoyed:

But seriously. I find it funny that people are loosing their shit over a 4.8 EQ in the Bay Area. All I see are headlines like "Bay Area rattled by earthquake". Rattled? IMO you don't get to start using the word "rattled" until you hit high 5's or 6's and stuff starts falling off shelves.

    A 4.8 is a gentle massage.

A 4.5+ in the mid west? Sure, that's a little more significant and unusual.

EDIT: Bay area one was a 4.5. One near hollister was a 4.8...

It can be shitty feeling for sure, but on the other hand if you're not close with them or didn't have a good relationship maybe it can be for the best

My brother was on the ~20th floor at SFSU when Lome Prieta hit.

Uhhh, we don't have a building with 20 floors here haha. You might be thinking of USF or UCSF.

    Not any more... :D

Pretty sure he was as SFSU, so might not have been that high. Well, he was probably high, but.... oh nevermind...

Did he live on campus? We used to have a student housing building called Verducci Hall that was damaged during Loma Prieta, sat abandoned until 1999 when they demolished it. Was only ~13 stories though. My Freshmen dorm last year was actually built on the land it used to be on.

I know I wasn't around for it, but I am really damn happy that quake damaged the Embarcadero freeway. Was such an eyesore.

Yeah, that could be the one he was in.

I remember they condemned the building because the EQ broke loose all the asbestos, and campus was like "that's bad, right?"

Don't remember if they ended up rehabing it or if they demolished and started over.

You should walk through some of the older 60's buildings on campus. A lot of doors have this on them:

@jbrandt You don't know of a giant pendulum at Sac State do you? It's in a new science building. @Sperrunner 's dad builds them.

I didn't know about the pendulum, but I attended the grand opening of the building a couple weeks ago. I was more interested in the planetarium.
