If you fly out of Austin it's cheaper last year went to Vegas cost me 89 bucks Austin to Vegas on Southwest

 

Why you Wana go play in the mud it rained pretty good out west gonna be wet

Man, that's really cheap. Airfare sucks these days. Just to go up to Missouri to see our son would have been double that both ways. NOT on any holiday.

Discounting the "gotta get away" discounts, it's all about what destination you are trying to hit. Despite SA being a bigger airport/city, it has more DIRECT flights for the carriers. ATX is slightly smaller, but has become a much busier airport, and many of the larger carriers depend on connections elsewhere. BUT, for Southwest, they offer more flights in their network out of Austin than they do SA, connections or not.

When I flew for a living, rare was the day I had to depart from SA because I could not get there. SA, did have more connections to Mexico.

So, dunno, real reason is probably ATX has more flights going more places. Don't know the last time SA improved the airport, but ATX is constant.
