Should I replace the coil springs-getting new shocks

Decided to replace the front shocks with a pair of Bilstein 5100s (thanks Down South Motorsports).

Would it be a good idea to go ahead and replace the Coil spring also? My truck has 165,000 on the original springs.

If I replace them, what is a good brand of coil spring?
I took a quick glance at Rockauto.com and they have Raybestos and Moog for reasonable prices.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

I would go OME for springs. But its really not needed if your springs are still good. But with that many miles, I would replace them also.

 

They don't suggest OME springs with 5100's. I would get the Eibach springs! JMO...and Toytecs...

 

The Eibach springs seem to be the way to go. I will have to check them out.

 

I have the 5100s and OME 880s and it dramatically improved the ride. 01 prerunner dbl cab.

and how much is that set up? and is anything else needed? like diff drop? sway bar relocators, bushings?

 

def get new springs, i didn't and my front sagged a LOT, I'll beg etting new coils when I get my new tires (toyo open country mt 255/85R16 )

 

Any other good brands of springs besides Eibach and OME?

 

For the price of the Eibach springs I can get Toyota springs. Are the Eibach springs that much better than the factory ones?

 

I payed $754 shipped from Toytec I got everything Diff drop and Bushings

I do have a 1st gen so I'm sure the price is different with the 2nd gen's

 

From what Ive read YES the Eibach springs are longer so there is less of a pre-load on the shock.

 

i like my ome springs. they give my rig better controls and ground force better than my over used factory springs.

 

I would replace springs with Eibach coils form toyteclifts.com. Seance you have a 95 with 165,000 miles you need to replace coils, coz when you put a preload on them it causes them to sag even faster.

 

Does anyone else besides Toytec sale the Eibach coils?

The Toytec shipping rates seem to be excessive.
I know coils have some weight to them but $40 in shipping is a bit excessive.

Ok these are my choices...(paired with the Bilstein 5100s on a stock 1995 Tacoma 4X4 Regular cab)

OME 880 coils $185 shipped (some people say they work with the Bilsteins, some say they aren't recommended)

Eibach coils $195 shipped (no one says anything bad about them except that they probably will not work with the weight on a regular cab-its too light for these coils)

Toyota factory coils $180 shipped

I keep reading conflicting information on whether to get the OME or the Eibach coils. After reading everyones contradicting statements I started to think that the factory coils were the best option.

What do you think?

 

I went with OEM 881's 5100's @ 0 differential drop kit CV's look good and the ride is acceptable not harsh but firm.

 

880's I would guess on your truck. I got 881's on ext-cab and think they are a bit stout. but much improvement from the old stock ones. Hey call bilstien for us all and ask em what the heck coil to use. cause we all lost on this subject of 5100 and coils.

 

I know this an old thread but, I did what gofas suggested. I called bilstein. They recommended stock springs. The technical department said the 5100s are designed to be used with stock springs. I think I wil give this a shot and see how it works out. Might save myself a little cash in the process. Sorry for bringing back an old thread. I thought if I am searching and finding this post it might help someone else.
