My 01' V6 starts hard & Engine light is on but before my 01 I had a 00' Pre-Runner and it did the same thing, I had the code checked($40 just to check it) and they said it was a lean code so they told me it was either one of the O2 sensors or the MAP sensor. It will turn over 6 or 8 times before it will start. MY current Tacoma the 2001 is bone stock and the 2000 had a K&N cold air. Any suggestions? Anyone have this same problem?

Shoot it's been a lil while I can't remember but I remember when I took it to have the code read he said it had to be the MAP sensor or one of the O2 sensors. I was hoping one of our TW guys had a code reader so i didn't have to pay $40 to have them hook it up and read it again lol

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Take it to autozone or whatever parts store you have and ask them to read the code. They will do it for free. We can't really help you without the code.

And you have a MAF sensor, not MAP.

Clean your MAF sensor. AutoZone sells a spray cleaner for that purpose. It's about $6.00 for the can. It will take about 15 min. to clean it and put it back together. The K&N filters are bad about clogging your MAF due to the oil in the filter. Piece of cake to fix though.

Sounds like it needs a mass air flow sensor, really need the code. A mass air flow sensor will cause a stumble for sure. Rare for a MAP sensor to fail and also rare to get just a lean code for an oxygen sensor or air fuel ratio sensor. If it is a P0171 then I am pretty sure it's going to be a mass air flow sensor.

This is very true, but you have to be real careful when cleaning that sensor, they are so sensitive. Also very fragile, certainly worth trying first. What also happens is they will short out if the K&N air filter is over oiled as well. Very common accurance. Good info though.

Then most likely it'S the mass air flow sensor/meter. Really need the code to confirm.

I just realized you live in Morristown, I was in Morristown 2 weeks ago at the Harley Dealer there on my way back to Virginia. Same town Davey Crockett is from I believe. Exit 8 on I-81 if I am not mistaken.

Well my truck was sitting out in front of the dealer 2 weeks ago yesterday with a trailer on it. Had to get a shirt ya know. Had 2 girls help me out, one was really nice (blond) the other a redhead at the cashiers desk (not so nice). Too funny. Was the picture of your Tacoma along the median strip at the Dealer?

I have a set of black TRD wheels for sale here for 1000.00 shipped in the cintinental US aside from that no. bBrand new in the box I am thinking about posting them on here but noone wants to pay whatthey are worth. Whels are exactly like mine 16x7.5 I believe. They will fit a first gen Tacoma as long as it's 4WD
