A turbo motor would be a mistake. A hybrid setup would make more sense for futureproofing the truck and giving it more MPGs.

I wouldn't mind a decently sized and very rugged specifically designed for truck duty turbo that still got decent MPGs. Taking a tiny turbo engine out of a small passenger car and putting it in a hard working truck doesn't appeal to me.

Supercharger would be better. These things already make power.

True, but you likely wouldn't expect to gas up at home so probably bought it before you got home, assuming you found a gas station with power.

Its not a very good argument unless its an extended length of time with no power, but I found it interesting to think about nonetheless.

Definitely a solution. Just found it an interesting topic I hadn't encountered or thought about before.

Funny thing is the bi-turbo V12 is one of MB’s most durable & reliable engines. On the other hand the turbo 4 that’s in a lot of their new products is by far the least reliable. Down in the south the m274 due to high heat is blowing piston ring lands left & right requiring engine replacement.

Yeah my friend used to be a MB master tech and he would tell me horror stories. Basically stay away from all non AMG motors. The m113 is arguably one of their best motors in terms of reliability and output. Really easy to put a heavy e class in the low 11s with a few mods.

Here is another thing that the California blackouts reveal: EVs will have to be banded or limited in number due to the fact that the electric grid in these areas will not be able to handle the increased electric load required to charge EVs.

Turbos are the replacement for displacement.

I don't know what everyone's complaint is about the drum brakes. At 200,000 km, I inspected mine, and they're basically like brand new. They do the job they're supposed to do, and they're good for the life of the vehicle. What more could you want in a brake?

Contrast that with any vehicle with rear disk brakes, which are constantly splashed with road salt and grime and have to be replaced every couple of years.

I don't have a problem with them but if they aren't wearing a little bit they likely aren't doing there job.

Toyota already has this Hybrid system. They've had it for years. The wife's Lexus RX450h 3.5 liter with 309 hp knocks out 28 mpg all day long.

I know, a hybrid would make way more sense. I drove a prius as a rental once and was impressed with how torquey it was off the line in sport/performance mode. That electric motor really gives it a nice boost.

I agree. Plus Toyota has a 8 year/100,000 mile warranty on all the hybrid components.

Yall are all ignoring the most important fact here:

No matter how much HP and torque a 4cyl produces, it always sounds like a blender full of bolts.

IDC if the bee hive is better, its still sounds like a bee hive.

I have to ask. Why is the way an engine sounds the most important fact here? True a I4 or V6 will never sound as good as a V8.
But why is the way it sounds more important than HP/TQ or reliability?
