You can use some alum foil and fold it around the top of the griddle and down past the opening to help block the wind. You can see in the pic how I did the sides. I do this a lot and you would be surprised how much it helps.

Just bought a trangia spirit burner. My first alcohol fuel burner. What do you guys use for fuel? Anybody got any recommendations?

I’ve been reading up on types. Just not sure what to get.

We use heat in our alcohol stoves but I'm not familiar with that one

denatured alcohol in qts or gal at wally or other bx stores wherever cheap. get a Triangia fuel bottle either in 1 liter or .5 liter size. They are the only ones that I've used that don't leak!

It looks like water but has different surface tension properties (if spilled it just runs all over the place, therefore demanding greater care with transfers).

    Briefly.
The very best is pure grain alcohol, 90+%. But that is expensive.
Next is ethanol. Denatured has toxins in it to make it undrinkable. So, there are some of those toxins that go into the air when burning. I buy gallons of the stuff at Lowe's.
There are newer bioethanol products available. There are quite a few alcohol burning 'fireplaces' and they provide fuel and fuel cells. Regal Flame sells that fuel. I bought 12 qts on Amazon and got free shipping. Compare prices.

Methanol is last. Isopropyl also. Use these only when you have to.

Yellow Heet is s good fuel. NOT the Red Heet.

Lots of great information there. A lot of good helpful people.

When buying the Magma nesting stuff consider getting the add on accessories, when added to the mix the whole pile gets slightly taller but the added colander is worth it with its built in folding handle as hanging storage while prepping.

If your cook setup has dual burners and you like to use them both then get an additional handle so you don’t have to fiddle with the back and forth swapping game.

Did just add this Uniflame toaster to the mix. Will be using it this weekend as my boy loves toast with his eggs at camp.

@2Toyotas Denatured alcohol is ethanol with methanol added to make it poisonous to humans and other critters. Toxins emitted are CO & CO2. Because the methanol makes it undrinkable it's not taxed like ethanol. On the other hand grain alcohol can be used in cooking and to give a little zip to your hot chocolate.:)

Heet in the yellow container is methanol and comes at a higher price than denatured.

There are differences between the two. I prefer Heet at the end of the day.

Lot of info online going through comparisons.

I don’t prefer it, but the nice thing with alky is the silence.

I use both and go with yellow heat purely because I am regularly at places to buy it. The canister is much less hassle and I use it for actual cooking as a rule, but I find both a diy alcohol stove (my coffee set up) and a small twig stove rewarding at a primal level. The fact that I can use a silent alcohol stove on the side of a quiet lake as the sunrise happens to make coffee is bordering on a religious experience. Stoves are like mods and potato chips...

Just pop in here periodically but for any of you looking for a cast iron grill/griddle- AmazonBasics now makes one. You can get them new for only 30ish dollars or do what I did and pick up a "refurbished" one for $27. Hell of a deal and we put it to the test out by the lake last weekend and it killed pancakes, sausage, burgers, and steaks no problem at all. Good way to cook like a King without paying like one

    I did, they both fit.
I also got the pads that go between the pots, and is also a trivet or pot holder.

And benzine and other bad shit.
    I haven't had a drink in a long time.

I considered myself a minimalist....then I had kids. I live in Colorado and you can never bet on being able to use a fire to cook off of so I made an investment in a Camp Chef Expedition 3x. Best money I have ever spent. There are 3 burners total, 2 close together under the griddle and 1 off to the side. The legs come off of it for easy transport but it is quite large. You can pull it out of your truck and have it set up in less than 5 minutes.
