What type of differential oil does a 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 TRD Off Road take? If it is a limit slip oil, do I need the friction modifier? Confused on what to use and don't want to destroy my rear diff. Dealer has helped but want a second opinion. Thanks.

Being that you have the off road, you can really use any type of properly weighted gear oil 75w-90 as its an open diff with a locker (no clutch disks that would necessitate friction modifiers). That stated a gear oil with friction modifiers will NOT hurt the diff at all. I run mobil 1 75w-90 (that has LS additive in it) in my TRD OR and never had an issue.

Dealer says they use 80w-90 with limited slip. Info helps. Thanks.
