Windoors or sliding window?

I cant decide, what do yall prefer? Im about to order a shell and this is my last decision. I like the windoors so you can reach in the front of the bed. I like the sliding windows because you can keep them cracked for airflow while driving. I know sliding windoors are an option but the way it breaks up the window is super funky i think.
BTW ill be getting a leer shell
Any other accessories you are glad you got?

 

Both- I don't know about Leer, but ARE offers a combo version.

 

I have sliding windows on my ARE, and would like to get windoors eventually. I dont see why you would want to drive with the windows cracked unless you have a dog, but even then I would think the window to the cab would be fine. Windoors just seem much more useful day to day.

 

I have the Leer 100r with windoors. 1/3 of the Windoor has a screened sliding section. I’m happy with them.

 

Glad you are enjoying them. Does the window being sectioned off the way it is bother you at all? It looks funky to me but im probably thinking about it to much and i finally have a truck with a nice appearance. Havent seen any in person (dealer doesnt have any).

 

Windoors for sure, I’m glad I got them on my 100r, I second that you can just open the front sliding window for more airflow for animals, and if that’s the case get the removable front window option too, gives you even more potential airflow, and you can remove and clean it.

Or you could do a windoor one side so you can get to the front, and a slider on the other side for ventilation, but I don’t see why.

Edit: the only time I wished I had gotten sliders is when sleeping back there in summer months and I wanted open air but no mosquitos. For this reason I fashioned some screens that Velcro to the headliner, which worked well, but sliders would have been easier. Still, I much prefer windoors

 

Nah I kinda like the way they look. Just a pain trying to section off stickers lol.

Should have ordered it with the windoors- it's crazy what ARE thinks they're worth gold after you get your shell, like $400/each. The screened sliders are great when you sleep in the back; the front slider doesn't have a screen or provide a cross breeze. If you have a dog, paddle or toss wet things in the back (such as getting caught in a downpour) it's nice to be able to open the windows while driving; it's nice when winter camping out of the back as well since your breath really condensates in the back while sleeping. I've even washed some stuff and hung it on lines inside while I drove.

 

I really like the access that these windoors provide. And I do use the slider function occasionally. Leer 180, 6' bed.

I got mine used, if I had the $ to buy new, it definately would've had the doors. Those are some good points about the sliders. I've never slept in the bed though, so they hadn't crossed my mind.

 

I do not know the reason that you want ventilation while driving but since I do not have sliders (i also thought the sliding windoors looked odd) and have regularly transported small livestock in the back of my truck in summer, here’s a roundabout solution I came up with that works for me to achieve good airflow while driving. I have no pictures of this setup on this phone, but will attempt to describe. First, open front slider, or remove the entire window if that’s an option and it’s hot outside. Then open back window (keep in mind I have the 100r which has the dual locking handles in back, which I recommend over the single central handle because it’s simpler, with less parts to stick or freeze or fail) I put one of those cheap metal spring loaded squeeze hand clamps you see at Lowe’s or HD on each handle’s rotating inside tab mechanism, then close the window. This leaves a gap of something like an inch and a half due to the window not being able to close all the way with the clamps in the way. I then loop a ratchet strap around one handle, send it down through the trailer hitch and back up to loop around the other handle, then snug it down. This gives excellent ventilation and air flow from front to back while also not allowing any animals to escape, and not having to have sliding windoors on the occasion of transporting animals. Probably protects better from rain and elements than sliding side windows too.

This may sound like a hassle but really isn’t after doing it once or twice. Again, not sure of your intentions but this works for me and skirts around ‘needing’ sliding windoors and continuing to prefer not having them and enjoying my regular windoors.

 

Thanks for your input. I end up with alot of wet gear in the back and ventilation helps dry it out and keeps the moisture down while on the road especially during the summer months

 

I ordered sliding windows (because they were free) but received tinted glass solid one piece windoors on my ARE CX HD. They didn't charge me, and said they could change them but I told them I'd take them.

It was the best mistake ever.

I love having the doors on the sides. The slider is crap and they are very easy to break into. Nothing in my truck bed needs a breeze, my dogs ride inside. Closing and opening those sliders requires crawling into bed, which sucks. We have them on a work truck and people constantly forget to close them.

Paying extra for the HD version was also worth it. I now have a nice observation platform for the racetrack and bird watching.....

You don't even need to mess with the side windows, just snatch the rear window hard on most shells and they pop open. You can cut a small dowel down to fit in the windows like folks do with the rear sliding cab windows if you're worried about them though. I had some in the windows of my last shell but haven't bothered on the current truck.

 

I love the windoors. Getting in from every side is a blessing when you have a bunch of crap in back and don't want to go through the hassle of crawling through the back. Also great to leave open and get even more airflow when sleeping in the bed. I have the ARE MX with windoors + sliders. Great for the dogs but if I had to choose I'd go windoors again with or without sliders.

 

I mean it depends on your preferences. I have a large dog that I sometimes put back there in the cooler months down here in florida. I have the sliding windows for him so i can give him some cross breeze and of course so he can stick his fat head out there and get some air. I think the windoors are more for like if you're using your truck for work reasons like if you're a contractor or something but thats just my thoughts.
