I got a set of 4 new Michelin Defender LTX M/S Tires 265/70r16 but the rims are sticking out like 1/2 inch. I asked the Costco tire tech who installed it and he said that was normal. I even check Michelin's website and they recommended this tire size. Is this something i should worry about?

My question is the gap btw the edge of the rim and edge of the tire, where the tire and rim meets, there is a 1/2 inch gap. Let me try to color it somehow.
The tech set the psi at the recommend 30 cold. I drove it several miles and it when up to 32 psi.

    Thanks all for the replies.

Here is a comparison from the old stock tires.

Here is a side view of the new tires. Thank you all for replies and concerns. I am glad that there's nothing to worry about now. Have a good day.

It's hard to see what you're talking about in the pics, what PSI are they at?

Are you talking about the wheel in the bead area? Those are alloy wheels and are thicker than steel wheels if that's what you mean. Looks right.

Those wheels and tires are exactly what I want. Let me know if you would like to make a deal for them.

Every tire is different. All terrains have rim guards, but most standard load tires back away from the lip of the rim.

You have one of the best truck tires ever made, don't worry bout it.

That is the edge of the rims stick out. I am wondering if that is normal since the stock tires didnt show that.

That's fine, it's just how the tires are, but I'm talking about the gash above the red. Looks like it's cut.

Great tire ... you have a road tire and not an off-road tire with a beefer bead design, kevlar side wall, etc. as the oem.

These tires are great in snow, rain, bur will not do well in mud with the less agressive tread.

I ran these tires on a suburban at 35 psi for quiteness. Would think same for tacoma and if i did not off-road, would buy them in a heartbeat.

I too just bought Michelin Defenders for my Sport (also from Costco). The gap seems the same as my Toyos. Here is a picture on my Sport rims for comparision..

OP is saying the rim of the wheel sticks out a 1/2 inch past the tire at the connection point .

I was posting my Michelin for comparison. I don't believe my rims stick out a half an inch.

Bead on the Michelin just has a different shape. The rim is a little thicker around the bead than the one shown with the sport tires look fine though
