    Its a couple hour drive to it plus a short hike from Reyk but you could go see the DC3 crash on the south coast. Skogafoss waterfall is down that way too so it would be a good day trip if you have the means.

    Why does the cockpit sit so far back in this plane? Is it simply because there’s so much engine up front or was there a strategic and/or engineering (or other) reason?

    I’ve always been curious about this and just assumed it was a side effect of a “long” engine.

    I'd guess due to the engine length. The original engine was the Allison 1710 which is about 7 feet long.
