I have friends who think they are a waist and do nothing more than make your truck "sound" cooler but do nothing for actual performance...

    What's your opinion?

I've heard throttle body spacers help too, but I don't have one. I just have a CAI and I notice a little more performance after 3k rpms but not much.

But it does sound cool :)

just do the deck plate mod there are proven gains and for only 20 bucks its probably the most cost effective way to do a cai

Ya I would just do the deck plate mod and me done with it!

I have a flowmaster exhuast on mine and when I did the deckplate mod you could tell a pretty good diffrence in the power gains and in the mpg gains as well!

Can't tell if you were joking about the throttle body spacer or not. They're a scam.

Actually, I think an AFE Dry S filter is preferred over the K&N at this point due to the K&N oil causing MAF sensor issues. The AFE is reusable/cleanable, just as the K&N, but just no oiling. About the same price.

Neither help. TB spacer doesnt do anything, and the K&N CAI sucks. Just makes noise (REALLY annoying, not "cool"). Im trying to get rid of mine (came with the truck)

i went afe pro dry s simply because it doesnt have oil and it claims to filter 99.2%. even if k&n filters amazingly i wouldnt feel comfortable putting in an air filter that seems to not filter as well as others based on reviews and some peoples experiences

    +1.

My truck also came with a K&N FIPK system. I immediately sold it & got a stock intake/airbox & just did a deckplate mod. Unexpectedly the stock airbox I got came with a K&N drop in & that's what I've been running on the street. I've never had any MAF issues but then again I don't over oil it as many people do unknowingly. In the dirt I slap the deckplate cover back in & pop in a new stock air filter. I would never offroad my truck with any aftermarket high flow filter unless it has a prefilter on it.

TB spacers are a waste of money. IMO they don't even look cool, they just make a swirling sound. In theory they should give you more top end but they're too short to add volume to the intake manifold. It's normally the length of the runners that increase top end or torque. Longer= more top end, shorter more low end torque.

Actually yes it does, it gives better throttle response. But better throttle response does equate to more power. For it to be beneficial there's other mods that should be done too. Want more air to go in, need to allow more exhaust to come out along with compensating for fuel flow.

if you wanna do the deck plate with charger your gonna have to upgrade your fuel delivery but honestly your not gonna be able to feel 5hp right after you add 80 the super charger helps it breathe much better and unless your really goin all out i would just save myself the time of the deck plate and be done with it
