It's been one of my favorite mods to the truck. It's up there with the second gas tank, the fridge and the daily driver.

I have a handheld ham radio and having this is much better. Also the over head lights are better. They might be too bright but they're brighter at least. Also the overhead storage is fantastic.

It was expensive. I think between the console itself and the radio was around $500.

Definitely something to consider down the road. I just put a CB in under my headunit so I'll probably keep that but if I ever get into Ham radio, this will definitely be on the list of upgrades. I love getting into my truck and seeing knobs and switches, it's a guilty pleasure.

I’m sure many of you have a variation of this, but this magnetic swivel phone mount is super handy. Cost like $7 on eBay. Have had it for over a year and no problems with the adhesive. It’s low profile and fits perfectly in the blank space next to the air vents. I use it to keep an eye on trans temps when I’m towing

Oh, one more thing to consider is heat. There’s not a lot of ventilation in the console.
My radio on low power is okay, but on high power,50 watts it gets hot to the touch. I almost never use it on high so it’s not a huge issue. I might add an ecu fan to keep it cooler.

I have noticed quite a few factory rear view mirrors on Ebay with map lights in them, like a mini mini over head unit. I assume from a T4R? Or something? I wonder if maybe there are factory wires above my headliner for such unit? Ive been thinking of buying one and trying it out, does anyone know if this haas been or can be swapped fairly easily?
Only other thing Id like to swap is put in some buckets and a center console

I finally found a nice nice daily driver, just a simple 2wd, but Im trying to make her really clean
Would love to find some 5lug factory 2nd gen wheels for her

Most of these aren’t mods but I did a lot of Improvements
Had the truck since July 26th

4Runner limited 97 buckets with lumbar support

Sr5 Map lights rear view mirror

3way pioneer speakers all around and new speaker wire.

Noico 80 mil Sound insulation for doors and floors (huge difference)

Blue philips 194(b) cluster lights and 74(b) ac light

    Orange clock from 04 prerunner

Detailed the hell out all the fabrics with turtle wax and oxy clean detailer. looks brand new, used to look like old vomit

All new door panel clips (like 30 or so)

Fixed all backlighting and 12v socket

Cleaned out 20 years of dirt behind dash and in vents

    4 runner door pulls

    New sun visor retainer clips

    New door locks

    4Runner locking glovebox

    Led dome light

New floor Mats from OC carpet.

    New shifter bushings

Restored all dash mounting bolts that were missing

    Rust repaired driver floor

Desperately in search of a driver door body seal but other than that it’s just waiting for wireless Carplay to get cheaper and a scan Guage.

New pioneer mvh headunit with Bluetooth and mic and auto eq, alpine pwe-8 sub/amp combo with 10 Guage wire kit loomed beautifully.

Cup holder shifter bezel and laser etched grey 5 speed and 4wd 8ball style shift knobs

    Rr diff lock switch

It can be done. And they are out of a Tacoma. I have the map lights in my 02. You'd have to wire the lights up and the door sensor if you want that to work. And mostly likely the wires for it are not already there and you'll have to run it down the A pillar.

The Prado is the small land cruiser that the taco was based on. The dash is amazing. I was just hoping to see it done.

Ah so we are into hypotheticals on this. What model Prado would be most appropriately matched to a first tacoma? I guess this would vary as the first gen evolved from 95.5-2001ish.

The first and best interior mod is 2 12s in the back. If you don’t have a double cab, even a single 10” would make things feel comfortable because ur bumping:amen:

How many square feet of the noico did you use to do the doors and floor?

35’ covered the doors and the front floors. I did inner and outter door skins too so you could probably get by with less if you’re not worried. I’m doing the whole carpet in the spring and I’ll need about 15 more ft2. My first mod was a delta 40 which made the noise level too much just about immediately. Sounds really mellow now

Thanks for the info. Could you be more specific about inner and outer door skins? And what's a delta 40?

Delta 40 is a flowmaster muffler

There are two door skins, inner and outter. I put a layer behind the inner skin to make the door extra solid. Sounds like a limo now when you close the door.
