Tacoma may get a 4cyl Turbo

Not saying he was right... But the 2tr has forged internals and the same block as the 3rz/2rz which is stout in case you were wondering... That motor is good for 400hp with just correct fueling for a turbo... Js

My Ex-Fiance's car not only had the turbo fail but the intake manifold also had to be replaced too as the variable vanes were carbon coated to the point where they would not move.

 

Maybe the engine will keep going but the turbos have to be replaced every 100k

I question the need for turbos in Toyota Tacoma threads. I don’t question the want, as long as the wanter is aware that the legendary Toyota reliability goes out the window when you add an expensive component that will shit the bed at some point. If that is what a person is into, cool. I get that. It’s not for me, but I understand. You cannot sell me on turbo durability though, no matter the literature. Some may last longer than others, some are less prone to heat damage based on oil/coolant flow, location, or the cooling properties of a particular engine bay. It’s not an issue of lubrication as it is materials. You have the introduction of hybrid bearings, but the weak link are the races. Maybe in the future you will see bearings made entirely of hastelloy etc when manufacturing of these metals becomes easier (again that depends on cutting materials and finishing materials to make) but it all boils down to heat resistant materials. IMO. I could be wrong. Maybe it’s something else. Maybe god hates turbos. Either way, I change them, a lot.
