So my truck is about to hit 1k. I've seen everything from 19.5 mpg to 29.5 mpg, but no surprise with driving conditions/traffic/etc. I didn't bother to read the suggested break in time, but I've been under 3000 rpm this entire 1k, so its been babied, although the last tank was 93 octane...and it holds the shift longer...When did you start seeing your best mileage?

I have owned a lot of car and never seen this phenomenon occur that mileage changes noticeably at any point in time. As for 93 octane, any performance gains are mental. Octane has nothing to do with your transmission shifting. Two totally separate systems.

I don't know-I've raced and driven a lot of vehicles, and the truck was certainly holding the gear out longer. Separate systems, not 100%. The TPS and the TCU/M are tied to each other, if the knock sensors advance timing from lack of detonation then the engine runs "hotter" which in turn effects the shift points. Or, I'm nuts. 99% of the time I'm right 50% of the time.

Your truck needs only 87 per the manual. I have a 6 speed manual rated at 18 highway....I can only get that if I go 65 or less. Otherwise I average 14 in winter and 16-17 at most in summer with driving above 70-75 mph. I am also lifted with heavier tires and such

I have tracked every fuel up with the 'Fuelly' app on my smartphone since I drove it off the dealer's lot. I currently have 44K miles. I have run Chevron gas 98% of the time, unless I was in an area where no Chevron was available when I needed gas. I have never seen better than ~19.5 MPG, and never worse than 16 MPG. My fuel efficiency diodn't change at all after any "break in" period. To date, I have never towed anything, and only hauled one load of firewood and one clothes dryer. That's it.

I know the recommended fuel, just tried the 93 for shits and giggles, feels pretty damn good by the seat though! I'm surprised by those mileage numbers with the MT! Thought it would be higher

My understanding is that most modern engines are “broken in” before they are ever installed. They run them for the equivalent of hundreds of miles at the plants. The CPU does “learn” your driving habits when it’s reset (battery pulled or fresh off the lot with no miles in the ODO), but that doesn’t make a significant difference in fuel economy from what I’ve seen.

My truck got its best MPG for its first few months because I slowly started to press the gas petal harder and harder lol

4th fuel up since I have owned it. 87 Oct.
19.392 gallons. 449.4 on trip A Fuelly rounds up. :)
1.7 gal left in the tank. Don't normally cut it so close.
The fuel light hadn't been on very long. Was on the northside of town and got to a decent pump
    as soon as I could.

Lol, I like the little gold fuelly participation ribbon. Keep working it. You’ll be at 25mpg soon. And you’ll be a snooze to drive with (like me.)
