I have a bunch of used junkyard OEM Hella D2S ballast/ignitors from back in the day. And whenever TRS has sales on used ballast I pick them up cheap. Like $20 for backups and garage tests.

Got the new drain plug for my front diff. Oh my would you look at the amount of metallic goop that was on it.

    MVIMG_20191016_175954.jpg

How much you wanna bet it's never been changed?

Also did the transmission fluid with Redline MT-90, the thud when shifting between 1st-2nd-3rd is already gone. Man someone really neglected this old girl.

    IMG_20191016_183605.jpg

There was a LOT of sparkles in the old transmission fluid. So much so that I could make the draining fluid wiggle with the magnetic plug.

I always get some sludge like that on my magnetic plugs when draining the diffs even at regular intervals. With that amount though I agree it's probably been awhile since it was changed. I bet it smelled lovely

Redline MT90 is great stuff, worth the money for sure.

I didn't notice the smell at first but I started getting dizzy after a bit.

Felt like I still had some time tonight so put Noice dampener and some closed cell foam in the back of the cab.

    Here's before:
    IMG_20191016_203319.jpg

    And here's after:
    IMG_20191016_215320.jpg

I almost messed up laying down the foam by trying to place it as one piece. Only attempt that when you have the seat and carpet removed, it's way easier. Instead I cut it into smaller manageable sections because I was still a little lazy.

It's nice to make some progress at least.

    Strange request incoming...

Slowly gathering parts for an eventual auto to manual transmission swap.

    I have an '04 DC, 4x4, 3.4, auto trans.

I need to source an '04 4x4, 3.4, manual trans. ECU. (obviously xtra or regular cab)

In order to ensure exact ECU I need a VIN to get a part number.

Does anyone have an '04 4x4, 3.4, manual trans that they are willing to give me the VIN so I can call a dealer and get a PN?

    Thanks.

    Ever use Toyodiy.com?

Its pretty easy to find what you need and will even help you narrow down what trucks would have the part you need.

Part number for a 5VZ Ext cab 03'-04' frame VZN170 ECU is 89661-04830
Part number for a 5VZ Ext cab 03'-04' frame VZN150 ECU is 89661-04740

I'm not sure what the difference is, but you can plug your vin into that site and see what frame you have, then just pick the matching one.

It was 2:00pm when I parted ways with Pops in eastern California - our relaxing trip into the Sierras just the start of a 3 week journey for me. The next two weeks would be adventuring to - and then through - Wyoming and Colorado with some of the normal folks - Mike and Monte (and his dad Steve), and also a new face to me - Brett.

I've been wanting to meet Brett for quite some time now, so I was definitely looking forward to the opportunity. But here I am getting ahead of myself already - first, I needed to make my way east. I'd save myself 18 hours or so by leaving from California vs. going home before heading east - but it was still an 18-hour drive to our rendezvous in Rawlins, WY.

With 24 hours to get there, I figured I would be just fine. Plus, the first leg of the journey would be amazing - I was driving through Yosemite National Park!

My route through Yosemite took me up and over Tioga Pass - one of the most scenic drives in the park if you ask me - and shortly after starting the climb, I was rewarded with a spectacular view. There, in the distance - El Capitan and Half Dome. Wow.

There's a spread sheet somewhere with the pin outs for every year. I'll try to find it later. If you have any questions let me know, I completed this swap a few years ago.

I’ve still got this very noticeable whirring noise from the Passenger Side. The sound increases and decreases with speed, not acceleration. Put it up on jack stands today to look for play, side-to-side I couldn’t do much since doing that just moved the tie rods. Up-and-down there was no play.

The dust shield wasn’t rubbing as I suspected. Really all I can think of now is maybe the bearing is still bad.

Also my wheel appears to be missing a few wheel weighs, I don’t recall if the shop only balanced it with two or I really have several missing. The opposite wheel has 10 total, while this one only has two.

You can see the scratches where the LBJ was making contact with the wheel when it broke during driving.

Took my girl down to NTB and had the 4 wheel alignment done. I purchased a 5 year plan earlier this year with a discounted price. So glad I did this today, since my left front toe was out. drives fine as wine now, and won't have to worry about this for awhile. I hit a set of railroad crossings a week ago, at the posted speed limit. My front end bottomed out so hard, that I almost lost control when it rebounded. Scared the crap out of me, and I have since just ordered a new set of Bilstein 4600 shocks. It rides fine on super smooth pavement, but any dips and bumps and it feels like I'm riding on no shocks at all.
