One other thing I noticed after the fact... all the assembly/set up paint markings that were still on there after Gid and I swapped, was completely gone. Not sure how long he had them in his truck, but I couldn't have put much over 10k miles on them myself.
Makes me think there were bigger things at play here. Likely some misalignment in my driveshaft. I do/did have a carrier spacer in there.

Also, what company should I get gears from? Nitro, Yukon, others? Do I need the master install kit as well or use what I already have in there? Noted that ECGS states their kit shims aren't as good as OEM.

Gear pattern paint comes off pretty much immediately in gear oil do nothing nefarious going on there. It looks like shock loading and deflection failure. The setup looks good with a wear pattern erring towards deep on the root of the ring gear teeth. Some sort of shock load happened combined with deflection where the gears pull apart from each other and it blew the end of a tooth off.

I’d just call ECGS and see what they recommend. You should be able to get away without a master install kit. Just some shims and they do sell OEM ones I believe. I run Nitro gears with no problems and ZUK likes them too.

The rock face I climbed, then backed off of, likely left the new scarring I see on the driveshaft where it meets the 3rd. Which is probably also what caused the deflection. All the other scarring is much more forward to the center support bearing and not near as wide and aggressive. I think I've talked myself into the reason/how/why this happened.
That's what I get for wheeling solo without a "real spotter"

I'm ready to watch doll hairs burn, I think. Let's spend some money today!

I may be rethinking the locker situation too. Switch to a more aggressive LSD, idk yet. Like to have selectable, just don't have selectable money right now :bananadead:

Actually, after reading their tech articles on ECGS, all syn oils aren't what they consider ideal, over dino w/ an additive and shorter change intervals. Looks like I'll be switching to an even cheaper option! :headbang:

New Nitro 4.88s for the rear, Yukon master install kit, solid spacer with shims kit (to use instead of the aftermarket shims in the master), new springs and pins for the locker, free shipping = $520

    :spending: :burnrubber: :mudding: :oldglory:

    hopefully some stickers for $500!

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
ECGS still suggesting Lucas 85W-140 non-synthetic?

Worked fine for me i think and was cheap enough.

Yes they are. I've used Mobil 1 once and SuperTech synthetics since owning the truck. Never had a problem and the oil was never that bad. The OEM (assuming here) when I changed it first at 30k, was black, then dark brown, then a few drips of medium brown.
If they recommend the dino, I'll get the dino.
