Anyone own a Retrax Pro XR? Thoughts?

Very close to pulling the trigger on this cover but haven't found too many posts here on it and most youtube reviews just seem to be an overview of product features. Can anyone give some first hand experience with it?

I'm looking at getting this and then putting one of the Yakima bed racks that install in the XR's rail on top.

Thanks for the reply. To be honest I'm more just curious if you've had any issues with this cover as it seems almost perfect for me on paper, but I'll throw a few specific questions at you:

- What is the total footprint dimensions of the canister (both height and depth)?

- Any leaking issues and does the cover come with some sort of drain tube option?

 

The canister is roughly 12” deep by 10” tall. Fully open I have 47” of open bed space and there’s 10” of clearance under the canister.

It has 2 drain tubes, but I do get a bit of leaking in the front corner, driver’s side. No leaks over the bed or on the rails.

 

I have a 2011 dc long bed re trax pro for sale. Canister is brand new. It was a warranty replacement I had to keep the side rails which I had freshly painted gloss black. I will say i got my truck used with it already installed. The cover was faded badly and the locking mechanism was messed up. They sent me a replacement since it has limited lifetime warranty. Lmk maybe we can work something out

 

I'm also thinking about getting this cover and the Yakima bed racks. Will the Yakima racks on this rail system support a rooftop tent while doing some light off roading?

I have this cover and have no complaints other than wanting to know how to protect the finish from fading as mentioned by bwrapped. I just started another thread asking how to protect the finish from fading. Any id

Paint protection film

 

Not familiar with paint protection film. Is it a spray or other type of application, or a brand name and where I could possibly purchase.

 

You should be able to get it on Amazon. 3m ppf it’s wet application film, clean the area real good, mix water with a couple drops of baby shampoo, spray the back of the film, lay it down, spray the top of the film and use a turbo squeegee of some sort, let water dry out and cut the slats.

 

Thanks for the info but might be a little more than i would want to handle myself being concerned about cutting the rubber seams between the slats. Sorry to take this thread off course, but in answer to the original question, I don't think you can go wrong with the retrax cover. It costs a lot but its a good product.

 

According to the factory they had problems with the older vinyl coated slats fading, so they now are making them with the matte black finish on aluminum slats, which aren't supposed to fade. Verdict is still out on that though since I've only had mine for 1 1/2 years.

I have a retrax pro xr on a 2019 TRD Pro with a yakima outpost and tepui tent that I took off for the winter. The setup is nice but I learned you have to be careful when torquing the outpost on the tonneau kit because the aluminum tracks can bend if you tighten the cap nuts too much. Also the weight of the tent plus outpost is at the off road limit of the yakima tonneau kit and rails on the retrax. So things like awnings ect will put you over the stated limit. I suspect the aluminum tracks are what limits the weight on the system.

 

You’re not alone on that. Ran into the same issue weeks ago after running the setup for a month.. I contacted Retrax soon after and claimed it wasn’t under warranty but went ahead and shipped me another set of the railings. Awesome folks over at Retrax.
