Rear passenger A/C Mod...

Anyone contemplated this one yet? I'm sick of hearing the bitching and complaining from the back seat, so I'm going to explore tapping into the hoses from one of the front vents and running the hose under the center console, cutting a hole in the back of the center console, and then adding a vent.

 

If you put the flow selector on the vent/floor setting, or floor only, the vents that are underneath the seats open up.

 

Yea I've seen those vents, but in extreme temperatures it seems that the foot vents aren't enough to shut my friends up.

 

Maybe you can take advantage of the floor vent and figure out someway to reroute those?

Serriously, what was toyota thinking? two air vents on the back of the center console would've been nice.

lol i dont know how hot it gets at your place but in new mexico it hit 112 and me and my family were nice and cool in my truck. maybe recharge your a/c? since yours is an 06..

 

It's mostly the wife's friends that have the issues... You know how it is when you have more than one woman in one place. "I'm hot" - "I'm freezing", "Turn the air on" - "Turn the heater on". Makes me really wish the Tacomas had an option for dual climate control...

 

I say enforce the following rules of the truck... get in, sit down, shut up and don't touch the radio. They should be thankful you're giving them a ride so I agree with Lurkin... new friends

 

x2 on the dual climate control.. My EX GF would always be bitching about being to hot or to cold. I almost traded it in for a Tundra for the feature.

OK, so one serious post (my limit!). Just keep in mind that adding vents will probably not increase the airflow, as adding vents "may" distribute the air better, but will decrease the flow to the other vents. In other words the HVAC fan was probably not built to service additional vents without losing something.

I've considered what you're talking about, but decided I will just keep all the vents pointed at the back at all times. I have 2 kids that sit in the back, they don't complain much,,, about that anyway.

 

I have though about putting a little PC fan in the center console and reroute the floor vents into the little fan so it can pull in some of the cool air, seems like a good idea one day when i find a extra center console it hack up ill follow through.

 

I handle the HVAC for an extremely large building as part of my job. I have found out that it doesn't matter how cold or how hot it is the women that work here are always bitchin about the temperature. You can have two women in the same office sitting right next to each other and one will be calling you up to complain it's too hot and the other will be calling you up to say it's too cold. The way I handle it is to not do anything except to walk through the office pretending to take the room temp and then leaving. 20 minutes later I will go back (without adjusting anything) and ask if it feels better in here. 90% of the time the complainant will say thank you it feels much Better!

 

Eh, I'd settle for my A/C cooling down hella faster than it does right now (takes almost 20min to really get cold). I need to drop it off at the stealer next week I think for that and a few TSB's.... w00.

Years ago, for same Building situation, we used to install an Accustat (Unadjustable preset Temp Contol Sensor) @ about 7' A.F.F. on a Column and on the other side of the Column, Install an UNWIRED Mechanical Thermostat. The Women Adjusted, up and down, All Day Long and Were Thrilled. Never Heard another complaint.
Just "Two Sided Tape" a Dummy Temp Control to the Back of Your Console and be Done With It
