    got the news the other day, and confirmed details this morning with the police. He floated up in the hotel lagoons, the urban part of the marsh restoration. Likely passed out at night from intoxication, fell into the water. I'd like to imagine he didn't even notice. Same murky waters as the marsh, just concrete lined. No surprise, glad the waiting is over for his family; a tortured life indeed living with alcohol addiction, and brain injury brought to a close.

    The old tractor appears to be in remarkably good shape. A tractor on a homestead type acreage sure pays for itself.

    Story behind it too:
    Gentleman who owns it is a real life sourdough Alaskan named Wick over 80yo. He came across the tractor in the backcountry broke down on an old gold claim. Long story short, the owner didn't think he could get it back out, gearbox was trashed. Wick traded a beat up old pick-up for it with the agreement it was his job to recover the tractor from off the claim. Wick knew all along he had a gearbox for it in his shed he had picked up somewhere in a trade. He waved with a smile as he drove out past the guy's cabin the next day.

    Another of my favorite things about going out there, always a chance we'll see Wick and hear another great story. :)
    EDIT: Wick is the gentleman sitting on the log mill in the background of the second pic. A kinder more interesting old timer doesn't exist in my world.

    I remember that from the Dalton highway on the North Slope. Any stupid little bush along the highway would drop out the blowing snow and start building a drift.
    Its not that the North Slope away from the mountain range gets a lot of snow, just the darn wind likes to move it around. (I describe the area to folks as a desert on a frozen wetland)
