It’s sad, but us as car lovers talk to our cars and give them names like a person, but in the end it’s just a bunch of metal and plastic. It can’t feel, see, hear, it doesn’t care or love us. All that matters is that everyone’s ok.

since you are clearly smarter than everyone, can you please explain how salvage values are set, and why his insurance company would increase their exposure by letting him keep it for less than that the salvage valve?

Barnes and Noble manager types, like the ones that run retail libraries? Keep them away from your truck, I hear they ruin interiors

Man, I feel your pain. I had a frontier fail to yield on a left turn at an intersection in front on me 4 weeks ago. Locked up the tires doing 45mph but didn't stand a chance avoiding his mistake. Crushed up my Tacoma the same way yours looks. My airbags didn't deploy so it hasn't been totaled out yet. Afraid to call for an update at this point.

We know who is the expert here, but if it helps others..

Most people don't even realize they can buy back their salvaged vehicle, in some states you can't unless it meets a certain criteria, but the majority of insurance companies would (at least in my experience) rather move on from the ordeal than have the car go to auction where it's a buyers market. If you do buy it back you will need state inspections for Lights/Brakes as a minimum, and a new SALVAGED title will be issued. The key to buying it back is to inform your insurance company immediately or better yet have possession of the vehicle. What people don't realize too is you can negotiate with your insurance company as to the true salvaged value. In most cases people just want their car/truck replaced. The one issue with repairing your own salvage vehicle is the original manufacture is no longer responsible and the owner is completely liable for any malfunction it may cause in an accident going forward.

You did not answer the question.
Please explain how salvage values are derived, and why insurance companies would take less money than they could recoup salvage, since you have claimed to be sure of it.

“(at least in my experience)” is not a qualified answer.
