Shift boot mod - MT - Has anyone ever done this?

I've got a 2020 Cement off road MT coming in and with it I'd like to replace the shift knob with the Cement TRD knob and slide the boot down to expose that shaft - I think it looks more truck like when the knob doesn't butt up against the boot.

What I see from some guys is the boot gets slid down and there's WAY too much slack in the boot making it look sloppy. However, this guy took up the slack to make it look more tailored and quite frankly, how my BMW M5 boot looked...anyone else done this and have anything else they might want to add? Sorry this doesn't answer your question directly, a core shifter might be up your alley if you like to expose your stick.
