Best LED Replacement Bulbs For 2016-2019 Headlights

Does anyone have any experience with LED headlight upgrades for their Gen3 Tacoma? I'm looking for something good quality, with a good warranty that's not going to break the bank. I'd also like something in the 6000K, 3000-4000 lumen range that works well with the Tacoma projection beam headlights.

Most of the lights I've been finding online are cheap Chinese bulbs and have a lot of complaints about them not lasting long. One common complaint I've noticed it the fans seem to fail easily for the ones that use fans, which leads to the LEDs overheating and burning out.

So far the best I've found are the GTR Ultra bulbs which are 3700 lumens, they don't use fans and have a lifetime warranty but they're really expensive at $200 for a pair ($400 total for highs and lows).

I'd like to hear if anyone has found any comparable products that aren't so darn expensive!

Definitely read this, excellent write up, and should help you make your decision on this tired old subject.

 

Don’t get the ones with fans. I had a set in my old truck that had the flexible metal heat sinks on them and never had any issues.

I’ve been using these since feb of 2018 and haven’t had a single issue. Very bright and the color isn’t blue at all.

 

X2. Have had these on mine for about a year with no issues. They are brighter than stock bulbs and the throw is good.

 

Thanks for the link, that was really helpful. It's interesting to know that raw Lumen output doesn't necessarily translate to more headlight output, and the focusing pattern is more important to output and functionality. I'm leaning more towards the GTR Ultra's even more after reading that. They're really thin which contributes to the quality of the beam pattern. However, I have seen a lot of good reviews on those Hikari's so that's kind of tempting at the lower price point. The fans still makes me a little nervous though.

I'm probably going to go with the GTR's in the end. Buy nice or buy twice is what I always say! XD

 

I agree with your concern about the fans. "If" I was in the market for LED headlights, I think that I'd avoid fans.

I've got Phillips H9 halogen in my low and high beams, and

$20 Nokya NOK7618 Halogen Bulb

Nokya NOK7618 Hyper Yellow bulbs in my fog lights.

Total investment around $35, and I am satisfied with the performance.

 

I considered going that route also. The h9 bulbs run hotter so you will be replacing them a little more frequently than the h11 bulbs but if your looking for brighter low beams for dirt cheap then that’s the way to go. I also considered the hid bulbs but the high heat with those actually melted the buckets on my wife’s last car so I opted for the leds and don’t regret it one bit. I’m hoping by the time they burn up there will be even cheaper/better options in the led market. I got the stock bulbs in the glove box just in case the hikaris crap out. can’t go around with mismatch headlights lol.

 

hikaris, the h11 works in all beams, simple to change, never had an issue in my 2018 or 2019

 

I’ve been using hella h9 on my low beams for almost 2 years.. I took them from my previous Tacoma and still using them... every day about 30 mins of use...

Probably I just overpaid for the Hellas...

 

I went with Halogens GE+130. They work for me for now. I'd like to eventually go with LED's but I'm holding on to hope for the 2020 LED assemblies. If I were to go with the drop in LEDs I would go with either the Hikaris or Diode Dynamics. The Hikaris tested better than the DDs but I've read some have had issues with flickering or dimming only after a few months. They do have a 2 year warranty though.

 

Per their advertising the Hellas are suppose to be 2x brighter and a little whiter then the standard Phillips. In my experience these brighter bulbs burn out hella quick.

 

NONE, Just get higher powered halogens. Read thru the link to the lighting three posted earlier.

 

probably same thing man... I am surprised that mine had lasted that much.. I expected them to last one year tops... I’ll put some hid when this ones burn..
