Consumer Reports is awesome if you're looking for a new sedan for the commute or a sensible crossover. However they absolutely DOG the Tacoma. No idea why. I feel like they either never tested it in person, or sent the whiniest bitch on their staff who's never driven a truck to test it. The stuff they complained about and the picture they painted of the Tacoma made zero sense.

I did my research mainly based on track record. Look around, there are Tacomas EVERYWHERE, and the used ones still go for quite a lot of money, even with higher miles. That told me pretty much everything I needed to know.

I think THIS is the most important statement I've seen in a bit. Sometimes it takes people a minute to sort and figure things out. Besides...if you listened to and did everything you read on a "forum" of some sorts we'd all never leave the house or own anything.

I read about the issues before I bought mine, and still bought it. It was made in Jan of 19.
    1. Checked my ubolts, they were tight.
    2. Checked my tranny fluid, it was a little low so I topped it off.
    3. Checked my ujoints, the rear driveline doesnt have zerks on mine, the fronts were greasy.
    4. Made a drain hose for my AC drain line.
    5. Knew about the low power/chugging at 55/shifting issues at low rpms, no big deal. Its manageable for me. Its not bad at all.
    6. Saw the diff barely weeping, torqued the hold down nuts and cleaned with brake cleaner, prob no big deal.
    7. I live in an area where they dont use salt, so I'm not worried about rust. My 2nd gen was generally rust free after 13 years.

    Hope you enjoy your truck!

You may very well be right, but I doubt anyone outside of Toyota actually knows the numbers.
I owned a very early production 3rd gen and I can tell you mine wasn't trouble free. Did it ever leave me stranded? Nope. Did some things annoy the shit outa me, yep.
The stuff I could get fixed under warranty, I did. The stuff I couldn't, well I took that into my own hands.
I leave you with this - if you think Toyota updated their ECM calibrations multiple times via TSB for driveability concerns over a few whiners, well that just doesn't make sense.

I accept what you are saying, but would offer a small correction. We are raising a whole generation of whiners in North America. I think the word “few” is too kind.

People obsessed with other people that don’t give a shit about them, read their favorite version of the news, and then predict things because they think they’ve solved some mysterious equation that nobody else can solve. It’s the equivalent of that one asshole who always chimes in on a “what I would do if I won the lottery” conversation. Everyone is having a good time talking about how they would buy a female celebrity and a fast car, then said asshole drops his “wisdom” - “Oh I WoUlD InVeSt it. YoU CoulD JuSt LiVe OfF ThE InTEreSt If YoU InVeStEd”

    THAT fuckin guy.

Granted, but we also don't know the demographics of the owners who complained to Toyota. There are plenty of middle-aged dudes driving these things lol.

Personally, I'm glad that people gave corporate their feedback on the 3rd gen. IMO the product has gotten better. My '19 M/T is most assuredly a better truck out of the gate than my '16 was.

....and yet, it still has a few bugs that annoy me. This new truck has a cyclic vibration that comes and goes at various speeds, and can be felt through the whole truck including the wheel. It didn't do it on the test drive, but you can't miss it now.

Like I said, we're all gonna look back at this moment and say "he was right," I actually only brought it up to explain why I wouldn't be buying another car this coming year.

Also, who keeps saying theres going to be a recession at the end of every year? @Jibbs This prediction actually comes from a knowledge of economics, politics, and how they intertwine along with each other. If you know someone who claims theres going to be a recession every year then maybe you shouldn't hear them out.

If you’re wrong, I’m going to orchestrate a smear campaign and demand you pay for the pizza party.

if someone were to claim any version of the sky is falling multiple times a year, I’d file them away into the kooky camp.

My understanding is the issues you mentioned were issues with the 16s. My 18 had none of them
