Has anyone lifted their bed from the side to get to the fuel pump?

    you have no crunchy Toyota paint chipping off from anywhere? even inside along the bottom of the frame where water just sits and waits to drain?

    so it must just be the road chemicals used to de-ice in certain climates that the Toyota frame paint has absolutely NO defense against!?

    even the littlest of it getting on the paint causes decomposition (if not washed off in time!)

    its junk paint! with weird chemical properties yet to be determined lol

    like i put on some naval jelly to test some good frame paint and it just sizzled sizzled with the chemical reaction going on

    Because you don't have the man power or desire to deal with it.

    I lifted my bed last weekend to replace the charcoal canister. Didn't have to remove any wiring or loosen any wiring. Just the 4 bed bolts. Slipped a small scissor jack between the bed and the frame and jacked up until I ran out of slack in the wiring then got to work. Much easier than pulling the whole bed off especially when you don't have the man power or equipment to do it.

    Today I lifted the bed and changed the fuel pump. It really didn't take too much effort.

    Just in case removal started to go awry, I put a piece of foam insulation board between the bed and the cab. The foam board is lightweight and easy to handle.

    Jack stands worked well to hold up the bed at an angle.

    Pulling the pump was easier than I though.

    It runs great with the new pump and hoses.

    Yes. I removed them so I could slide the bed backward and away from the cab.

    And what did you use to raise the one side that high before you slide in the jack stands?

    Initially, I manually lifted it and then slid in a mini-floor jack just behind the wheel. I used that jack to get it up high enough to get one jack stand under it. Then I pulled out the little jack, and finished lifting it by hand as I positioned each jack stand in better locations. I think I could have done it without the jack. Tomorrow when I take it down, I'll get some help to push it up while I remove the jack stands.

    If you are not trying to lift off the entire bed, its not that heavy or hard to maneuver from side to side.

    Here's a picture of the little floor jack that I used to for the initial lift.

    I had to R&R the Evap Canister (was busted to shit somehow) under the bed on my Gen 1...I unbolted the driver side, loosened the pass side and used a 2x4 to raise the driver side enough to get to the stinking canister, and another 2x4 to keep it there. Didn't have any help handy, was pretty easy to do solo.

    I ended up removing the bolts and moving the bed back at an angle.
    Had complete access this way without the bed hanging over the tank area.
    Put a body jack Stand on the rear center of the bed and tilted the whole bed

    Took me about 3-4 hours because I could not for the life of me remove the one side of the high pressure fuel line.
    I was afraid I was going to break the connection.

    Lucky I was able to get one side off tho.

    Might be why liquid brine is always stored in plastic containers because glass would break in the trucks

    It would eat through steel like the rebar in bridges

    hence the horrendous garbage roads around here everybody wants to drive 80 down i80 with massive problems around the expansion joints!
