I hate to pile on, but all the extra weight really is an issue, and stronger springs are just a visual bandaid. Every extra pound on that truck is constantly wearing at the frame, suspension and drivetrain, faster than it should be. If you're lucky, nothing will break. If you're unlucky, it'll break when you least expect it and at the worst possible time. Keep that in mind and be extra vigilant anytime your under it, eyes peeled for anything amiss.

I met a guy in Oregon last year from Australia, who also had too much stuff. I also found the spindle off his trailer in the middle of the road. Things do break.

That said, have you considered going aluminum bumpers? That would help with the weight on your front end. At this point it seems like you've cut out the things you can live without, so your only option is to replace things with lighter versions. If you're bored in camp some night, it would be good to sit around and weigh things with a fishing scale. It might give you some ideas.

Take care, I will pretend that I am not super jealous.

I was just thinking about Australia. They have some strict laws regarding vehicle weight. But, you can do GVWR increases. They're pretty much suspension and brake upgrades but need to be "engineered" and certified with a sticker showing the cert #. Kind of like adding a supercharger in CA. You need the smog sticker to pass smog.

I don't know much about it other than what I've seen watching youtube videos like Ronnie Dahl and some others.

Thank you! this is sound advice a legitimate concern.

I love aluminum! I build a service truck out of a military welding bed. It worked really well. I am considering a different front bumper tube thats lighter but that arb has saved me many times. If I could afford it I would get an aluminum one.

I was considering taking the bed off and building an aluminum setup like the use in Australia but it takes time to do.

I have a bunch of the parts back in Texas at my dad place for a SAS that will be more weight but it will handle more. It would alow me to lock the front. Im always concerned about the Lower ball joints. I check them constantly and a spare for each side. The extra weight is in my opinion the most critical on that part.

Im not a go fast off roader. I cruse along taking in the wilderness. I leave the fast for the long travel boys and girls.

the sagging is not unbearable, it does not prevent me from going anywhere. I have much more ground clearance than stock.

I was really hoping that I could swap a _______ spring in the front and just be a little better.

I can climb to spots that are designated for jeeps with short narrow wheel bases. I have no trouble on multiple types of sand, I can get threw reasonable water crossings, I can roam threw some prety impressive rock.
I have my center of gravity low so I can take angles really well. I was with a guy with a rtt and he was not able to take an obstacle because his weight was too high.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
    All the GVWR questions aside.

Have you considered ToyTec 620 pound springs? For comparison
    2882 = 395mm free height - 500# spring rate
    2883 = 375mm free height - 590# spring rate

    ToyTec 112-620 = 381mm free height - 620# spring rate

These are the coils I am running, and I like them. But I'm running Bilstein 5100s (on the bottom clip). I've never seen anyone use ToyTec 620s with OME shocks, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

If you think my conversation here is a personal attack, you need to get off the internet.

I gave you my opinion on what *I* would do if I were in a similar situation (trailer), and literally my first post in the thread was suggesting airbags. The rest is just a cautionary discussion on exceeding weight limits.

It's interesting that you focus on me, like I'm the only one talking about your truck being too heavy.

    Have a great day.

Fair enough, if you understand the risks, there isn't much we can do.

I think if more people would see my rig in person, and go driving and wheeling with me to see it and my capabilities together are, they would not have an issue. With my tools I'm always able helping people out, pulling people out, getting people back on the road and out of places they dont want to be. I dont know how many times I have heard "thank you for stopping" "I cant believe you got this fixed".

Its so great not having to worry about the yard, the roof or the neighbors. I just do a little work, travel, see some beautiful places, meet some great people and help out where I can. I pick up trash others leave behind, leave Evey place better than I found it with the exaption of some tire tracks. I take some pictures along the way, hike and ejoy the great outdoors.

I understand the concern being at GVWR, but Im under it and im not breaking the law and its not just randomly filled with junk. I think there are bigger things to be concerned about than that.
You can get sued for anything now days, there is no stopping. If I was to get sued? I have insurance, beyond that not much in the bank, no house, no property. The Ex took everything a long time ago, I never rebuilt a collection of things other than this pickup and my tools and camera.

I may have to much stuff. I doubt many people could live with what few things I have on a day to day basis. Most of the #van life people have much much more than me with much more "luxuries". I see people that take tons of stuff just for an overnight trip. I would never dream of saying anything to them.

Its perfectly fine to have luxuries, its fine to have a house filled with material things. I would never say otherwise. When somebody asks for help I dont give them a lecture of how they are living. I dont even care, but I will help them out if they ask.

I did not think I was going to be at GVWR, but Im now under it. When and I can I will shave weight. I thought it was great suggestion to know what I was at so I followed that advice and found out. I wonder how many people have moded their vehicles and never weighed it.

I did not realize it was so horrible to be a heavy rig. But since it is when I get a moment I will post some others you can let them know as well.

Those of you that offered advice or help I really really do appreciate it. I thank you and I have learned a lot more than I did before.

I think you'll be happy with that set up. It's really best suited to a heavy front end. Some people complain about those springs being too harsh, but they aren't running bumpers and winches etc.

I had this set up before my winch and bumper, and I didn't have a problem with it. I liked the set up even then.

I did lose about 1/2 inch of lift when I added winch/bumper/2nd battery etc. But it sits good now... probably was a little too high before the weight.

I totally forgot about the Toytecs! good recommendation @Uphillshunter

also @970btu have you checked your cab mounts for wear? Energy Suspension makes poly replacements if you want a little stiffer.

and to pile on the "wants", if she ever dies or needs and engine replace, you could always swap in a Tundra V8 or diesel :spending:

I cab mount bushings are 1 year old by energy suspension. work great. I had to rebuild the driver-side rear mount.
I'm at 60k miles, I hope it will be a while before I need that. I have read about the diesel swap. I have not seen the Tundra V8 swap. That could get somebody in trouble with all those horses to play with. The only time I really miss the V8 power is climbing a steep grade hiway at "speed", I just pull behind the truck, motor homes.
The thought of a v8 in a Tacoma drool...
