Roof racks

Who has aftermarket crossbars threaded into the factory roof inserts?
What model? Pics? Links ?

Not looking for a basket or rack just crossbars to permanently mount to the factory threads....for kayaks n such.

And you’ve already decided against the OEM crossbars? Mine works fine for kayaks and lumber and everything like that.

 

OEM is probably your best bet if you don’t want the Prinsu or Victory look. That’ll get you cross bars when you want them and nothing when you don’t.

 

I have the OEM bars, used them once or twice for some pretty long trips including 100+ miles of desert washboard, with a Yakima Rocket Box on top. Pretty good for the price. I installed them, it was quite easy and no leaks so far. ARB makes longitudinal rails that tie in to the stock threaded inserts and can accept some crossbars, which also looks like a pretty good solution. Finally, RhinoRack has tracks that also mount to the factory holes, that take Thule or Yakima towers, and thus bars but it’s more expensive than the ARB solution.

 

Nope rhino rack needs u install 8 rivots in yiyr roof if i am correct....no thanks..lol

I had thule threaded into factory holes. Since then i drilled into the cab and installed rhino ditch track so i can move the crossbars

 

Are these photos with the ditch track or before?

 

To be honest i cant remember, I think with the track. This gives you an idea though. The factory holes arent as forward as the tracks let them go

Ya ....dealer and rack shop told me they dont make them because they cannot bare as much weight without spanning the roof. Which still is not a lot. Hence the long factory racks.

I never could understand what they (Yakima, shops, etc.) meant whey also told me the rack wouldn't have as much capacity. Talking to Yakima, most Landing Pads typically use 2 bolts per pad, whereas the 22 only uses 1 bolt, and they don't make a Pad with 2 holes that will line up with our setup. Aside from that, my WRX has a similar Landing Pad/Skyline Tower setup that was an official offering from Yakima, and it only uses 1 bolt per pad; it's weight limit is 165 lb, which is really the official rating of the bars and towers, not necessarily the roof itself. In the past, I've never carried more than about 120 lbs. I'll keep y'all posted on any experiences I have with the rack; good or bad. I did email Yakima with some pics and a description, just like of like as an install report; maybe they'll do something with it. Cheers.
