I have a 1999 Tacoma SR5 extended cab. The shoulder height adjuster on my truck has stopped locking in position. Instead it just slides up and down freely. Is there a fix for this? I uploaded a picture and linked a video from youtube to showcase the issue.

As frayed as that is I would just replace the whole thing. Looks dangerous.

The part in question isn't included in a seatbelt replacement though. I would still have to fix this.

It's just one bolt holding it on. Unbolt and have a look at it.

Okay, found the problem. looks like the retaining clip fell off the locking mechanism. Looks like I have to pull off the entire panel to unbolt the slider to completely to reattach the clip on the backside.

there's supposed to be a spring that goes over the head of the lever pin you are touching with your finger on the last picture. The spring is held in a recessed hole on the brown cover through which the bolt goes (first picture). There's also supposed to be a small blue plastic ring in the notch of the lever pin (without it, the pin may get stuck in the holes of the rail onto which the mechanism slides)

Thank you, Would a regular c clip work? I had bought one at the hardware store that would fit. I didn't know about the spring maybe I can salvage a similar spring from something else.

I don't ever adjust mine. If you can't find repair parts/method, you could always drill and tap a hole though the base and slide and just make it permanent at your preferred height.

IIRC seat belts have a lifetime warranty you might have luck getting a new one for free since the belt is fraying like that
try calling the local toyota service department and ask
might not hurt to call toyota corporate and see what they say in the event the local dealer gives you the cold shoulder

No, I don't think a regular C-Clip will work. You have to get a clip that is as thick as the notch and it has to sit flush with the pin as well, or it won't get into the holes on the rail. The ring is some kind of friction ring that will prevent the pin from slipping out of the hole. A trimmed O-ring or two will probably do the job. As for the spring, it's a half-inch long and 1/4 inch diameter

Okay, I got it to work until I can make it down to the junkyard. I ended up using a c clip, a spring, and an o ring to make it happen. Access wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I only had to peel the cab trim enough to fit my wrench. Anyways here's some pictures for reference.

Sorry to piggyback on this old thread, but I am needing the push button for the seat belt height adjuster, like the one in this picture.

I have not had any luck finding part number, any help appreciated.
