Everywhere I read on re gearing a rig all the forums say go to the pros/ someone who has done it before with successful long term results.

    Please help me
A find a shop in Oregon
B find a awesome person who is willing to help me re gear my rig.

Looking at getting nitro gear 5.29. Anyone suggest another brand and why?

Would it be worth wild to go ahead and get front and rear diff locks? Or just rear diff lock?

I am not blessed with the e locker on my rig.

Also arb single air compressor or arb dual air compressor and why?

Looking forward to the help. Thanks in advance20190928_174601.jpg 20190926_132615.jpg

Funny you mentioned them. I got a quote from them and am trying to see what else i can do to
    A avoid sales tax
B not be stuck up in cashmere without a vehicle for a couple of days.
C try and support some locals in my area ish if i could before going up to them

I have heard nothing but good things about them though so thanks for recommending them.

Have you gone through them? Whats your rig set for?

Can't really do anything to help you avoid sales tax unfortunately. Technically since you're an Oregon resident you'll get that tax money back when WA does it's audit but it isn't immediate. Usually a regear with them just takes an afternoon, then you can drive home.

I didn't have mine done there, I bought the diffs that I needed from someone else. But my wheeling buddies have had theirs done there. One with 4.88 gears and one with 5.29 and both with front and rear lockers.

My last two rigs were exploring and camping rigs. My Land cruiser can't decide what it is and my new Tacoma is probably going to be an exploration/camping rig too haha.

Here's a pic of the last one

Well thank you for the info. The last rig looks good. I was not aware of getting my tax money back . I called just differentials about 2 weeks ago and have just been pondering life over their qoute and how deeply am i ready to be attached to my rig haha.

For your exploration rigs did you have them locked or open?

Thanks. I was open on the last two. But this time around I'll lock em. My Land cruiser has lockers and it just makes everything easier.

Doesn't make sense until you see the quad in the back. I built it knowing i still wanted to let my toys fit in the back. When i go out to play this is how i go. Reason why i am leaning to 5.29.

Look into ECGS. They mail out the fully assembled third and clamshell. You or a shop swaps them in. Place the cores in the same box, attach provided label and off they go. Once they receive them you get the core fee credited back.

The assemblies are warrantied and they will install the lockers for the cost of parts alone. Whatever ratio you want as well.

They will also install bushings that fix the bearing noise that’s common to the clamshell. Legendary customer service.

I'm one of the guys that @Speedytech7 was referencing. Couldn't be happier with the work I had done at JT's Parts & Accessories (Just Differentials) in Cashmere.

Wrote up the entire experience here, with tons of pics of their work!

And breaking in of the gears here:
    Breaking in the new gears

Still quite happy with the gears. Shoot if you've got questions, obviously.

I ended up going with Hamms Offroad. He was a great guy and had my rig done pretty quick. He uses revolution gears. We ventured in the unknown with TJM front and rear air lockers... we found out that the tjm front locker wont fit 1st gen american tacomas and had to send it back and get arb front locker. With arb you need to also order the upgraded seals right off the bat so you wont be replacing them very soon. I also went to the Toyota dealership and got all facoty seals for the axles. I was recommend to do this as toyota had pretty good seals. The magic number for air lockers front and rear and regeared at 5.29 plus on board air was $4,080.00

Could i have learned to do it myself and save some cash......probably. but hey its done and over with and i really think adam at hamms offroad knows his shit he had 5.0/5.0 good dude and i dont think i got ripped off.

Things i notice now that it is all geared
Different shifting points, different normal driving idle rpms.

Its hard to explain this next one but here we go...
I feel my motor is not carrying alot of the load stress yes its at 3200rpms at 75mph but the weight of the drive definitely is no longer on the motor i feel the gears do the work and the transmission has like zero stress on it.

Again this is how it feels when i am driving it.

I didn't need the airlockers in the type of fun i have. But i was already spending money on the area they would have to touch. I am happy with the truck it is actually very fun to drive now and its only 2.7l but man do i love it. Id also say go for 5.29 if you plan to run 33s with alot ot armor like mine 20191201_164128.jpg
