I was born in europe and yes, i will agree that most vehicles are manual, also usually small diesels.

I did drive right hand 180sx and it did feel weird for first 5-10 mins, then it was all good!

I learned to drive on MT and did my first road test in 1.8 MT sentra. He was impressed haha!

Sitting right seat shifting with left hand here in canada...its called allowing the driver to hold his beer while eating a burger going thru the gears. It's what good copilots do! Sheesh

Part of this is vehicle size and the highway systems. A Camaro is a large car there, Crown Vic, Caprice any late 60's to 80's station wagons, all monstrous vehicles! Bigger then a delivery van there!. They drive, North Americans cruise. Pick up trucks here are common, but are rare there. Even Australian vehicles are better than North American vehicles. It's a shame the manual transmission is a dying option that once was standard.

About a two beer job. Lift the console, remove the chrome boot collar, and I zip tied the boot around the shifter. Since I used the pro shift knob I cut the white plastic tabs off the bottom of the knob that the chrome collar attached to

Actually you don't. It's just easier if you do.

Shifting from 4lo to 4hi on the fly is pretty easy. Goes in easier if you double clutch, but it's not necessary. I do it all the time.

Going from 4hi to 4lo is harder to do on the fly. You have to be going real slow for it to work, and you have to get the RPM's just right. Usually not worth the effort.

This is on a 1st gen with a J-shifter. I don't know if it applies to others.

On 2nd and 3rd gens with the electronic switch/dial, you do have to completely stop. It's stupid.
I miss the j-shifter in my '93 pickup...

And on the 3rd gen manual at least, you can push the "clutch cancel" button so you don't have to bury the clutch pedal for it to switch from Hi to Lo, or Lo to Hi.

New corvette has no manual either. They sold 15-20% with a stick and still canned it. I wonder how many will just keep their older MT corvettes instead of upgrading.

Wonder if they may add a MT at some point in the future on the Vette?

Yeah, it is sad. Looks like 2019 C7 is the last Corvette I'd look for. Hopefully used prices don't skyrocket too much on the MTs.

At least so far they've said it isn't physically possible. The way the engine is laid out with the transmission behind it there's no way to run shift cables between where a shifter would be and the transmission. That's why it is all done electronically now in there.

I read an article recently somewhere that had the authors stumped as GM documentation had many Manual Transmission terms in it that would not make sense for AT only, could just be wishful thinking on their part too.

Well it is a DSG isn't it? Technically a MT but the computer controls and does the shifting for you (a.k.a. no fun).

Yeah... I have a j shift first gen.. never had issue going into 4 lo. Recently changed into 4lo on my 3rd gen.... thought the light wasn’t blinking applied some gas and heard a horrible loud crack... think it was just a hard shift into 4 lo but unsettling either way.

GM is quoted with saying there is no chance of a manual. Unless of course no one buys their corvette and demand a manual. I read one reason they cancelled the manual is because the cut-out for the shifter to stick through the floor would compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle too much.
