Toyota has just announced it will add a warning light to check that drivers side floor mat is secured. Tacoma will not start if warning light is on and message will state that truck should be towed to dealer.

 

To preface this, I’ve been rolling around on expired plates since end of July.

Last night I was 3 ciders deep and was like “IM GONNA REGISTER BETTY WHITE IN THE MORNING”

So I spent an hour getting all the paperwork together. Dmv opens at 8 so I’ll get there at 7:30 to be one of the first in line. It’s mid 40s out, so not many people will want to stand in line.

I get there and the line was wrapped around the building, some people sitting in camping chairs. So I didn’t even stop, just drove right on home. Got wawa on the way home at least.

I was so disappointed. So I guess I’ll just leave work early one day to try and beat the crowd.

 

If memory serves me right...don't you have to have a safety inspection before you register at DMV?

 

Negative. The two aren’t actually linked and looking at the dmv website, there’s no mention of a safety inspection. That’s how I understand it and it makes sense since you don’t need a current inspection to renew registration.

 

I have aftermarket floor mats, so if I die in a violent floor mat related accident I guess my family has to sue Weathertech instead of Toyota.

Ha, sucker. My plan is to never get it inspected. I have an assateague island sticker that looks very similar to an inspection sticker. Since I don’t drive the truck much I should be ok. Just won’t drive it on base.

 

Yeah some of the government security guards think they are cops and damn sure want to criticize every little fucking thing.

Typically it's either the rookie or state police that get you for expired inspection. Speaking from experience.

 

That makes sense. I figure (hope) only way I’m getting a ticket for it is if I get pulled over for something else and the cop happens to notice no inspection. And I drive like Betty white while in Betty white, so I should be ok. So long as I don’t blind anymore cops with my lightbar.

I think there's an online course you can take in advance of your court date that will buy down some points...and look good to the judge
At least this is what my 16 year old did prior to his wreckless charge that was lowered to failure to pay full time and attention before it even made it into the courtroom.

 

Back in 2002 after moving to Fauquier county I went to get my car inspected and mentioned I needed emissions as well. Dude looked at me like I was stupid. “yeah... we don’t have that here.”

Sonofabitch. Had I know that I would have moved out here years ago.

 

I have yet to live anywhere that requires emissions, since I moved out of my parents' house in 2000 when I graduated from HS.
