Get rid of my led headlights to go with hella ecodes?

Hey guys. i have a 96 taco that is currently wired for and has led bulbs but the housings look really cheap and the light scatters like crazy.

After reading a bunch of postings, I bought Hella ecodes and was going to “downgrade” back to halogens.

What’s your opinion? I want a really clean cutoff line so I’m not blinding drivers but part of me feels like i’m sacrificing the led conversion.

 

The e-codes are a nice light- especially if your complaint/concern is light scatter. Pattern is tight and very distinct cut-off - Bulb is swapable if you want to go brighter but I was pretty happy with them as they were. Unless someone could show me a LED product that could match the e-codes it would be my preferred choice.

 

Yeah I’m definitely looking for clean cutoff. Glad you’re reinforcing my view especially since I already bought the ecodes.

 

the Ecode will be better then a cheap led bulb setup. or you could go with a proper led headlight.

Hella e-codes will significantly outperform an SAE LED upgrade and are an outstanding upgrade. They put near 2x the light on the road alone over SAE assemblies with a stock bulb IIRC. Add to that a halogen bulb upgrade and the difference is substantial. See this thread for the additional halogen upgrade options:

I don’t think i’ll be doing the ultimate upgrade though as I think I’ll be happy with some good quality 55/65w halogens in there.

 

IPF X4 Fatboy 60/80w will be the highest performing bulb to run on stock wiring, but they are very expensive and they are higher wattage on low beam (80w).

Philips Racing Vision +150 are the best performing stock wattage low beam. But their high beam has a blue coating which will reduce high beam performance.

The GE Xenon +120 is the highest performing bulb that doesn’t coat the high beam, though low beam performance isn’t as good as the Philips racing vision.
