Hello all, newbie here with an issue. I filled up my pickup today, and as soon as I finished, truck would not turn over. Just cranking to no avail. I have been known to click a little extra gas, but have never had an issue starting the pickup until today. I have read about the charcoal canister possibly being saturated, as well as the fuel filter being clogged, but where should I start?

Tell me about it, I filled up at 545 this morning to go elk hunting then it happened . I replaced the fuel filter, took the gas cap off and tried to start it, inspected the charcoal canister and hoses (in place, I have not had it tested), and I did not know how to remove the fuel pump relay to test it so I didn't. And I do not hear the fuel pump or relay when I turn the key on, so I hope that helps narrow the issue down for someone who knows about these things. Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out.

I thought there was, but I could not find one labeled as such. Just the big relay under the steering wheel

The battery is new, and turns and even chuckles like it's going to start after I leave it to sit for a few minutes.

Topping up is no bueno. Floor it and crank 3 seconds. Stop. Wait 3 seconds, should start now. Recommend new Purge selnoid and NEVER topping up again.

I just gave that a try and still just cranked. Is that more likely than the fuel pump going out? It feels like I have either no power to the fuel pump, or it's just not working at all.

If you did saturate the cannister raw fuel will flood it through EVAP hose.

Are you overdue for timing belt change?

No, it was done about 30,000 miles ago. It has a new battery, alternator, fuel filter, fresh oil change, and the starter is only a few years old.

Just plugged it in, and it's not throwing any codes, so I am baffled. I've never heard of a fuel pump going out without any symptoms or anything.

Does this mean I have to remove the canister and clean it out, or would I need a new a whole one?

Raw gas flooding was a suggestion to help with diagnosis of no start.EVAP hose from tank would have raw fuel which is easy to check for.

Disconnect the line from canister to intake plenum and plug it off. Try it again

Use a RUBBER mallet to whack the bottom of the fuel tank in the vicinity of the fuel pump while someone cranks the truck. It is not uncommon for a pump on it's way out to be 'stuck' in a dead spot. A little whacking will free it up with the vibration. It's a very quick test, if you suspect a no-fuel condition. Much like tapping on a bad starter, you know, right on the sticker that says "Do Not Strike With Hammer"

To add on top of all this, this is exactly how one of the family's car died.

Stopped at pump, fueled up and no start. Fuel pump was replaced and on it went.
