the motor has nothing to do with it. It just has to do with a little bitty timing circuit of the switch is all.Frankly it's dumb that it's not a standard feature on the lower end of the trucks but whatever, every auto manufacturer is like that now.

No, the original OEM switch that came with the truck only had two positions low and high. The replacement switch has the intermittent timing and functions built in to it.

In step 6 you misspelled the word “too.” Other than that, great write up. I’ve had my Tacoma for a year and a half and I don’t know right off hand if mine has intermittent wipers or not. I’m about to go outside and look.

If you have an offroad you have the intermittent wipers already in their (haha). Toyota only cheaped out on the SR model.

Great write up! Just did mine. Took about 20 minutes total, the shrouds were together very tightly but with a little wigglin I made enough gap to insert a screw driver to pry them apart. Also, I especially appreciate the part about being gentle on the release tab. Thanks !

Moe, I want to thank you for the great write up and pictures. I just finished the switch switch (yuk yuk) and now have intermittent wipers!! You're instructions are right on the money and I thank you again, NOT having those intermittent wipers was driving me nuts, of course it will probably never rain again ......

@moe2o4 like everyone else says thanks for posting this! I swapped my wiper controls out in 10 minutes tonight after letting the two speed wipers get on my nerves for the last year and a half.

It should. Frankly, the fact that Toyota are still making them without intermittent wipers is beyond me, but the rest of the automotive world does too.

It worked on my 2019 SR access cab V6, no problems.

Do you recall, did you buy a switch specifically for the 2019? I was just on ebay and they sell the switches for 2016-2018 and he says specifically in his ad, that it will not work for a 2019. There are 2019 switches on there. (Just making sure I order the right thing. Thanks

I looked up my ebay order history. Here is the exact one I bought. I used one of the rebate sites and got ebay bucks as well. Followed the instructions on here about how to change it, the hardest part was carefully removing the steering column shroud. Have been using the switch here in Oregon since it started raining about 6 weeks ago without a problem. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask here or PM and I will try to promptly reply.

You are awesome. Funny, the one switch that I spoke of on ebay, that said it won't work for 2019, comes up in the search. But if it worked for you - I have exactly the same as you; 2019 SR access cab v6. I'm finding out that stupid little 5 - as in SR5, means a lot. One thing though, I was reading, others with SR do not have cruise control - I do, in fact its adaptive cruise control, which I haven't gotten to try yet, but seems cool.

Oh and other mod, which I found out today that I need, keyless entry. I called the dealer, gave them my vin and asked how much for the remote fob, he gave me a price and $110 to program it. I asked if he could program a key if I bought it elsewhere, he said yes, but couldn't guarantee it. I got one on ebay and took it in today to get it programed. Son of a ##$$ came back and said my truck doesn't have the receiver needed for the fob to work. Cost me 64 bucks to find out my truck could not have keyless remote. I am not a happy camper. I am gonna look into one of the aftermarkets that Ive been seeing.

Did you get the SX pkg? I think that is the one that includes the adaptive CC. I have that on mine along with the black fender flares, better rims, mud flaps and floor mats. Other than the keyless the main things on the SR5 are the fogs and intermittent switch which parts wise total cost me less than 150.00 , way better than another 1500 for the SR5 imho. There is a convenience pkg for the SR that includes remote entry, which did not come on my particular truck. I actually would be fine if my key would unlock the passenger door from the passenger side. Have not been able to find that mod anywhere so far . I could add the aftermarket keyless entry but don't really like carrying around a fob. Anyway, you saved big time by going SR vs SR5 and if you have to spend a couple hundred to get the keyless entry you want, you are still way ahead of the game. BTW - Congratulations on the new truck!

Just checked, yep says SX pkg. Mine did not have mud flaps, but does have other items you mentioned. Thank you - I do love my truck, but didn't think it'd be so hard to upgrade some of these things. Another of my woes, trying to upgrade the radio, mine has basic entune and I want to get the better one. Found one on ebay for the 2019, and so far I've asked 4 diff sources if it will plug and play (besides the antenna for sirrus and gps) and I've got 1 yes 1 maybe and 2 no's. Guess I'll just have to order it and find out. (sigh)

I'd like to know if the basic Entune radio in the SR can be upgraded to the premium also but I will not accept an answer from anyone unless they have actually done the upgrade. Too many people out there who don't know the difference between their opinion and fast.

You will also probably want to upgrade your speakers as well. The tweeter mod was easy and made a big difference in my truck. Sounds like A lot of folks on here are going to crutchfields to get the door speakers and upgrade those also. For now I am happy with my stock unit and the upgraded tweeters. I think my next thing will be some running boards and then a way to secure my bike in the back of the bed. Of course as said before if there was a way to open the passenger door with the key from the passenger side I would be all over that one.
