Do you believe in fate?

I searched but did not find a thread in the matter.

I was wondering what people on here believe in.

Do you believe in fate or do you believe that you choose which road in life to take and however you decide to deal with the "speedbumbs" in life is up to you?

I'm a strict believer in that a person has control over what happens in their life. Of course unexpected things happen, but you have many ways to choose in how to deal with those events.

Many believe only in fate.

Which one are you, and why do you believe in what you do?

See heres what happened. I was stationed in cali in Feb 2008, I went home on leave on July 2008 (back in TX). While I was home on leave I had a stroke, was paralyzed from my whole right side..so I took a few months of therapy.

So there was a Marine Reserve station righ in my home town. I didn't know it existed. So since I was medically disabled I got stationed there until I was discharged (Jan 2010)

At this point in my life is when I started to question myself if I believe in fate or I had control over my life.


Between July 2008 and now a shit ton of things have happened, and have met many ppl. I still feel like everything that has happened since I was old enough to control my own life, (17 yrs old went to bootcamp) has happened because I made a choice.

People make choices, and every choice has an outcome everybody knows that.

Maybe my point of view might change when reading ya'lls responses. Maybe not.

 

I feel it's a combination of both.

I think we have a certain amount of control, but life is pretty random and we have to make choices.

 

I should also add that faith probably would be a part of this combination as well. I guess it's not that simple on a sober mind.

 

I say dont sweat the small shit!, according to fate, destiny and karma.... That makes everything small shit... Enjoy the ride.. however long it lasts.

 

Exactly what I was thinkin! To answer your question OP, No I don't belive in fate.

Nope.

Fate is an excuse for people who don't take responsibility for their actions. Or a way for people to be humble when they don't really want to be.

I do subscribe to Karma (a little) and luck. Although I think luck is more of a result of personality outlook on life than an everyday occurrence.
