No window rods mostly. The windows zip up and down inside the tent

 

So not a huge time savings but a little bit. Makes sense. Thanks!

windows took longer than opening the bi-fold for me. huge pain

 

Not huge numerically, but 20-30 seconds in a 1-2 minute setup is pretty big percentage-wise

 

Thanks! I was interested by the fsr when I was looking but I got rid of my tepui and just picked up a ground tent. Don't plan on going back to RTT any time soon.

That is very true! I like that the frame is on the outside too so the tent shell doesn't get bound up in there when you fold it.

 

Mine was on my roof so little more climbing.

 

...Ready for our hike, we ran into a bit of a pickle - neither one of us had brought a pack...

One might say luckily - but anyone who knows me knows that it's just due to a lack of fashion - I was wearing my camo cargo shorts, and I was able to stash my water bottle in one pocket, my sandwich in another, and still have a couple open for camera stuff. Pops, much more fashionably dressed - in some khaki cargo pants (lol) - did something similar. And we set off!

I got their Nomadic 3 in White and it seems like a quality product with great customer service. I would bet it’s made in the same factory as the other big RTT manufacturers.

 

not super expo.. but this is where Im headed this weekend. Ill just be there for 1 night, but should be a fun time

It was 2:00pm when I parted ways with Pops in eastern California - our relaxing trip into the Sierras just the start of a 3 week journey for me. The next two weeks would be adventuring to - and then through - Wyoming and Colorado with some of the normal folks - Mike and Monte (and his dad Steve), and also a new face to me - Brett.

I've been wanting to meet Brett for quite some time now, so I was definitely looking forward to the opportunity. But here I am getting ahead of myself already - first, I needed to make my way east. I'd save myself 18 hours or so by leaving from California vs. going home before heading east - but it was still an 18-hour drive to our rendezvous in Rawlins, WY.

With 24 hours to get there, I figured I would be just fine. Plus, the first leg of the journey would be amazing - I was driving through Yosemite National Park!

My route through Yosemite took me up and over Tioga Pass - one of the most scenic drives in the park if you ask me - and shortly after starting the climb, I was rewarded with a spectacular view. There, in the distance - El Capitan and Half Dome. Wow.

Any advice for loading a 65 pound dog into and out of a tent mounted at 3rd brake light height?

 

Extended or not? If not, what about a folding dog ramp if you can find one long enough.

 

Doing the math on that, the ramp would have to be about 17 feet long...

 

I’d like to have my lab in my RTT with me but there is no practical way to do that. Perhaps if I were in my early 20s again and a powerlifter it might work but at 64 those days are behind me. She sleeps in the truck

 

RTT rally was pretty fun.

Could be shorter with traction. I would consider interlocking sections. Some dogs even climb ladders but a standard RTT ladder is too steep.
The only other options are to get buy an RV or start working out. Both of which make one sound like an asshole when they recommend it.
