Is this 2011 Tacoma a decent buy?

Wow they were trying to deceive a buyer by coating over a rusted truck.

    Hmm . . . none as yet, that's why i'm here . . .
did u buy this? hope not, sorry if u did.
used dealers will very often just black spray paint the frame with no prep work, I say often, really pretty much all the time.
When u see this type of thing stay far away.

No way, first thing I did was look at the frame and sigh. I feel bad for whoever does get this truck. I knocked a lot of the coating off to expose the rust so if anyone else looks at it they’ll see more of what it really is...unless they coat it again.

I just took a look at the original truck I posted about. Seems to be in nice condition and the frame isn’t that bad. But it is rusty. I was hoping it was going to be in good enough shape for me to clean and deal with OR be bad enough where it would qualify for replacing within three years. Looks like it’s right in the middle, I’d need a way to accelerate the rusting, haha!

Also he’d go to 16,5 but no lower.

Want to dissuade me more from this thing?

Later tonight I’m going to look at an ‘06 4 cyl with 75k miles and 3 year old frame (replaced by Toyota).

That frame looks good, way better than mine- but I think that has already been replaced since it's a Mexican frame? The worst spots are typically on the inside of the frame's channel where there is additional support metal inside it. The two layers traps water and accelerates the rusting. Make sure to get under the truck and look at the insides of the channels, especially at the rear

edit- oops, you said it was replaced in the prior post :)

Yup, replaced in 2016. Leaf springs, brake lines, lower control arms replaced too. It’s a 2006 and there are other pretty rusted components. Some little brackets I could put my finger through. Didn’t really like that. Also it’s red. Like McDonalds ketchup red. Other than that it seems pretty solid. Still a contender but really a last resort.

I would recommend driving both V6 and 4 cylinder before committing to that 4 cylinder. Don't just settle on a truck due to impatience. With that red truck frame being replaced 3 years ago, I would highly recommend carefully inspecting the body panels along with the frame. That paint job looks too new to be a 2006 so look for questionable bubbling rust spots on the body panels along with any signs of rattlecan black paint on the undercarriage to hide rust. There are still signs of rust on the frame and suspension parts .Good luck with the purchase.

So far I’ve driven both the 4 and 6 cylinder. I could go with either one honestly. Both are like rockets compared to my current ‘94 pickup. That red one is on the table as I said above but only if I have to. I don’t think I’d be happy with it. And (knock on wood) my truck is still driving fine so I’m not really in a huge rush. We’ll see how long that lasts. I am looking at a 2010 with a new frame that’s less than a year old up in Maine, south of Portland.
