What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I sprayed Corroseal inside frame before FF using the same wand just because, RUST.

a CA truck? i thought frames were bulletproof in California!

 

if it was an option, i probably would've had it (but i don't know, its been so long lol)

 

2001 I think they added the pigtail

 

before you drizzle that FF stuff inside the frame make sure you explore all options on further coating inside, once that FF is in there it is most likely permanently UNABLE to remove and treat/paint it somewhere down the road
do you have pics of what's going on inside there?

i hear that about taking all day!, my cleaning and zinc coating is going to take most likely 4 or 5 months to complete with the one man army
only made it about 4 feet on one side and under in close to 10 hours this weekend

i think i need a 1st gen frame mod day

 

Why don’t you take the bed off, 1 hour job and have the frame sandblasted?

I may be completely wrong, but I remember in your build thread you mentioned something about a tcase cross member, and I think it somehow lifted the Tcase up a bit.

Am I right? I may be trippin.

 

You're right. I pushed my drivetrain up a good bit with the Front Range Off-road transfer case cross member. Deleted the stock member and mount.

 

May need to look in to this. Now that I'm getting ready to mount the 4xinnovations skids, I'm wanting to buy or fabricate a skid that goes past the Tcase. But I'd like for the skids not to hang down that far.

The rear part of the 4xinnovations trans skid mounts directly to the trans cross member, and I guess that crossmember is deleated by the LowRange crossmember. So I would also have to look in to how I would make that work.

 

are you envisioning any additional driveline modifications?

 

If you have a drill you can make your own drain holes.

The two prongs on the door are meant to hold the cap.

There was recently a crossmember in the for sale section. Not sure if it's still there. You may want to give budbuilt a call and see if they can still make the tcase clocking kit and crossmember. The tcase crossmember is basically the center of the truck and is most likely to get hung up on sharp break overs.

Well fuck... That crossmember belonged to my buddy (in fact, my skids were delivered to his house. And he's the one that is going to charge my rebuilt coilovers for me).

Guess he didn't know I would have been interested in the xmember... Not his fault. I didn't know I'd be interested in it either lol.

 

eastwood phosphoric acid afterblast with zinc phosphate coating i am assuming will prevent future corrosion creep behind paint as the crap Tacoma paint seems to be doing...
red spots are the HF red shop rags i was using to apply, perhaps those are not the proper cloth to use to smother the acid on, will not use them again for this purpose

for the fear of knocking the cap off and it rolling away underneath truck somewhere when its blistering cold & windy out

 

2001 for sure. My 98 and my 2000 didn’t have the tether, but they did have a holder for the gas cap on the back of the door. My 04 has the tether, but it doesn’t lock like my 98 and 2000 did.

 

Not sure about earlier years but here is a part number for a tethered gas cap for 2001-2004. Should be able to use on earlier trucks

 

Even if not there, the hole is simple to drill for the teather clip
