I have yet to get a letter for my frame. But I’m sure with some time I’ll receive one since I live in Central Pennsylvania and we have some crazy salted roads in the winter.

But I’m with everyone that has mentioned simply just washing your undercarriage will help. My family has a auto repair shop which I work in and I can’t count the amount of frames we see anymore that are rusted through. Might sound crazy but I feel that even has simply just wiping off your frame with an oil here and there helps. Sounds old fashioned but I feel ATF sprayed on with a garden sprayer works well. But not very eco friendly.

It’s not a auto make issue, it’s all how you take care of your vehicle. But with time no matter what you do steel will rust so Even Toyota’s crappy rubber coating is better than nothing.

True, I should have set “most”. I had a ‘78 Porsche that was galvanized.

Most of the 3Rd Gen frames look to have nearly the same construction type as the 2nd Gen Tacoma. So they should rust similarly then as the 2nd gens did. Washing the underside will help, but due to the type of c-channel frame they use, it's unlikely you'll be able to wash out all the road salt. However I have noticed either 2019 or 2020 models-cant remember which-have additional measures taken that should eliminate rusting so bad.

How many people is “so many people”?
Hundreds, thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions?
    Seriously flawed logic.
    Think about it.

I live in Wisconsin. The amount of salt that they use on the roads here would trash any vehicle driven on them. I hate rust...it has been the demise of many of my vehicles. My 2018 Tacoma came from Washington with 25k miles and the under body is extremely clean. I'd like to keep it that way.

I am planning on driving it in winter but garaging it when it's not driven. I worked in a dealership for 15 years and you can spot a 10 year old garage kept car vs. one that was not pretty easily. They corrode much more quickly and components wear out quicker as well. Brakes, belts boots, bushings.....that's a lot of b's.

Anyhow, I'd like to keep this truck as rust free as possible. I typically wax my cars 2 or 3 times per year and get a good coat in the door jambs and other nooks and crannies on my pre-winter wax. I have never undercoated any vehicle. Is it easy enough to do at home? I'd prefer something that isn't a waxy film...is that my only or best option?

I usually try and do under body flushes anytime I run my vehicles through the touch less wash and I want to get the Ryobi water broom / under body cleaner for home washes.

Has anyone noticed that the 19 frame has the " black rubber" silicone style treatment on the frame where the c channels are two layers ..... In my opinion this only traps water and salt in without allowing it to drip out when washed

And I have mud / rust OCD so I wash out under all my trucks more than I wash the topside

Keep using the “make it up as you go along” method. It works for you.

If you have a heated garage you’ll be better off leaving the truck outside all winter. Putting a vehicle back in a warm garage after being out in the cold and covered in frozen ice/salt grime allows that crap to melt and migrate into all the nooks and crannies of the frame. Leave it out in the cold and take it to a hot water pressure washer every once in a while to clean it all off.

That guy should be spraying the pizza sauce off the side of his vehicle.

Agreed, and the more the temperature increases, the more active rust [chemical reaction between iron and oxygen, salt makes it go nuts] becomes. At zero, nothing is basically happening, warm it up to 30, 40, 50 degrees F and it really goes to town. Those are the days when you want to get the salt and garbage off your vehicle.

Many people don't wash their cars. Many who do don't ever spray below the shiny parts. I would bet these are (most of) the frames that rust to shit.
I've been looking at Jeeps recently. They rust as badly as any Tacoma.
