The LED SAE J583 Fog Pod & Fog Light Review

I doubt there will be covers for the 360s. Covers pre-dated the selective yellow versions, and the selective yellows are much more efficient/higher output than using a cover. The white LED temp is supposed to be a bit warmer (lower color temp - better) than their existing white offerings. If looking at the 6” driving, you might also consider the KC Pro6. The Pro6 will project further and is SAE Driving beam compliant and I strongly expect will have better color temp, the 6” 360 series are not SAE compliant. Not critical for a high beam driving light but the forward facing LEDs loose some projection distance as they are not as focused as the Pro6 reflectors, even though they put out more light.

 

The G4’s are great fogs for the white color. Selective yellow is a more ideal color for inclement weather. The 360 fogs are so new they are not shipping yet, expecting late October. The 360s will require a mount kit for the OEM location, the mount kit is designed for 3rd Gen but should fit 2012+ 2nd Gen with minor modification.

Remember, you can say / advertise just about anything you want because let's face it, many folks are too stupid to figure it out. (And everything on the internet is true too!) Many companies "stretch the truth" a bit (or more) when advertising their products. This would be one of those cases. The disappointing thing is that a very reputable company has tarnished their reputation doing something they normally don't do. I'm sure they'll straighten this one out though.

 

My big question is now that several sources have tested the SAE lights by @Baja Designs , and they have failed miserably will they stop advertising them as such?

 

Yeah, what happens now? Will the testing parties release their data, or present it to BD, or what?

 

You guys are giving them too much credit. Remember, this company advertised their off road lights as street friendly. Don't hold your breath they do the right thing.

 

I don't know @crashnburn80, but he seems to be a extreme enthusiast on lights, not anybody who is truly connected to a company in the industry. If this type of person is able test the lights themselves, and find the results of testing companies, then I'm sure a company as large as Bd is fully aware as well. Plus how many times have they been tagged in this thread (that they are now conveniently ignoring)?

Tacoma World Enthusiasts, Baja Designs would NEVER intentionally false advertise a product nor would we ever release a product without performing our own internal testing. Since all of our designs are proprietary to Baja Designs, we made several revisions to our SAE optics prior to releasing the SAE Squadron ensuring we met SAE J583 standards. Up until Crashnburn80’s initial thread stating our light did not pass his light laboratories J583 evaluation, all of our testing has been performed in-house through our optical software programs and field evaluations. Once Crashnburn80 made his initial announcement stating our lights do not comply we immediately shipped multiple sets to a third party facility to validate our internal results. We are expecting those results this week! Once we know more, we will surely keep everyone in the loop. If we made a mistake I can assure you Baja Designs’ will make it right.

Awesome, independent 3rd party testing is a good idea. That is the level of quality response and commitment I would expect from a lighting industry leader like @Baja Designs.

 

Had a chance to drive though some quite thick fog. Was running a different way to work due to road construction ( road work ahead should be SC state flag lol ). The BD done a good job, turning them on and off I noticed a difference, yet still could see how high they shine up. Another note is running the RI lights at 50mph and suddenly hitting crazy thick fog is a nice wake up call, guess I need to throw the amber covers on when I get off, better than clears for the random pop up fog.

 

First hand experience, your SAE lights would blind the hell out of people compared to the rigids. Which is why I went with rigid.

The amber covers are effective in knocking down the color temperature, but you'll take a 50% output loss. The selective yellow versions are significantly more efficient, with only a 20% output loss, meaning higher output. Granted that isn't as convenient as just adding the cover.
