you still have to stop and sand with the grain, also dont put excessive pressure on the wood. lots of times its the grit off the sand paper that is causing the marks but it helps to stop and sand with the grain also. If the scratches are deep you may have to go back to a coarser grain and start over. even if its a tool I like it to look nice to start with ;) Just depends what you are making, you dont want deep perpendicular scratches on the grain...

That’s a beautiful table. I bet it looks even better in person. Definitely gonna try my hand at one of these.

I want the bigger Laguna lathe but for right now I don’t have the space so I’ve been thinking about getting this one. How do you like it? Did you make the stand?

Looks very nice. Where did you order the multi-colored lamination?

The homeowner lives in a high end neighborhood and wanted to make his basement feel like a “Cabin”. He wanted me to install pallets. I though it sounded really dumb, but it turned out awesome!

Everything was random length and width. I did some notching and a lot of work on the table saw freehand when the numbers didn’t work.

The beams where wrapped in cedar and 3/8 OSB in the ceiling grid.

Looks great. You did a very nice job. I guess if you can’t go to the outdoors, then have the outdoors in your basement. The customer is always right.

Thanks! It took quite some time . I had seperate stock piles of different shades to work in so it wouldn’t have larger areas of similar color.

It took about 5 months. The homeowner worked in NYC and flew home every weekend. I could only work in there on Saturdays

Get a nice block of wood, drill some holes to fit the bits and label them accordingly

Maybe get some “free” pallet material and use that to cover the walls or make a cleat system.

I insulated my garage with batts and then covered with 1/2” ply. Unfortunately, we got flooded and I didn’t think about the garage as was working on the house... Insulation held the moisture, termites and other wood eating things got in and now I have a shit show on my hands. Will not do that again. Had my walls been open at the top and bottom, all would of been good...
    Lessons learned.

I ripped 1/8 ply to 6” and did faux ship lap. Should’ve gone 1/4” and should’ve insulated. If you think you “might” want to cover them... INSULATE!

I got lucky a few years ago and bought some 7/16” OSB sheeting for $7 per sheet. So I bought 50 of them. Covered all the walls inside my big garage. Also makes it easy to hang things. Like I said, got lucky to get it for cheap.
Edit: I also got 10 gallons of paint for $5 each and mixed it all together to have a uniformed grey color. Not too shabby.

I agree with insulating for sure, if you are covering up the walls any way.
Just wanted to mention that sometimes not all is awesome. To quote the LEGO movie

But our winters are nowhere’s even close to theirs. You and I insulate to keep it cool in the summer, right?

Yes. I had thoughts of air conditioning the garage so I could spend a lot more time out there, however that just didn’t pan out due to work and now I’ve got a bit of a remediation program ahead.

Sounds like a good plan. How much do you think you will spend on propane to heat this building during the next few years? Heating cost w/o insulation vs. heating cost with insulation.
