    Man that just stinks!
So bought in August to re-sell like a wholesaler or was he selling as a private party?
Again, hope you are able to get fraud out of this...especially getting it checked out. Not good all around. :(

Does anyone know if I could take the VIN to the dealership where I live and get some kind of report on the truck? If it went through a dealership recently, surely they would have some kind of database paperwork?

Not all, my 02/2001 was not affected. The TSB tells you how to determine if your truck falls under the recall.

Yes you could assuming Canada has access to the US database assuming it is a US truck. You could also decode it yourself to some extent: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Numbers_(VIN_codes)/Toyota/VIN_Codes

I would say the most important info you're looking for right now if the truck was a Canada market truck or US which the above link would help you figure out.

So do your guages read primarily in MPH?

I only know it as Turbo Direct Injection for VW/Audi. ;)

Man, that's ridiculous. I hope that you're able to get the issue sorted out.

If not, just look at it as a lesson for when you purchase future vehicles and to look into it more. Not too mention, first generation Tacoma's are one of the longest lasting vehicles on the road, so whether that be 90k miles or 150K miles, just know that you've got a great dependable, long lasting truck.:)

Check it thru Carfax like has been posted above. It may cost a few bucks but you'll get good info on the vehicle.

This appears to be a dealer error when they took over ownership of that car. My guess: Canadian dealer gets car, it shows 149k miles. Dealer is told its 149k km, does the same thing you did and finds out its not km but mi, and continues to sell it to the guy you bought it from knowing it was a false reading. You and the guy you bought it from should go after the dealer together.
