Thought I read it somewhere in the zillion posts. Guess we will know for sure when they announce at SEMA. IMO - it makes no sense to develop if it is not as big brother is going to bend us all over and make us comply one way or another.

100% it will be CARB compliant like the rest of the superchargers they produce for Tundra and Tacoma. Most likely release and be CARB pending after that similar to the 2018 Tundra.

They do like to tease. Maybe they will actually have information to share at SEMA. Either way. Ovtune is way ahead of anyone else. Especially since he's already cracked the ecu.

We will see. Last I heard from them they haven't even begun tuning
I bet it releases carb pending. Not that I want to undermine it, it's likely going to be an amazing setup, but I'm quite sure they have a lot of tuning to do, and it either won't release this year at all, or will with carb pending.

Outdated info. Another pro to a turbo is altitude has minimal effect on them.

Carb pending is their pattern and makes sense (to me) as a progression....a commitment (of sorts). At least to try.

It does but it's not as harsh, they can spin faster to compensate for the lack of air.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Superchargers are generally cheaper and easier to install. Turbos will almost always be better in performance. Properly sized turbo will spool quickly and give plenty of low end power.

I’m partial to the supercharger for ease, but willing to go the other way. Can’t wait to hear what OV says about it since he’s really the only one that’s experienced both.

im a bit biased because I've personally always been fond of turbos.

I'll use my SC tundra as an example. Lots of power, feels very torque at any RPM. But does not feel "boosted." It just feels like a bigger engine. It also isn't nearly as whiny as those classic SC YouTube videos of other cars.

Turbos on the other hand have a spool time, peak pressure, and follow through. Where you can feel all of it. Hit full boost and get a surge of torque and then the follow through of torque as rpm rises (usually).

The SC simply doesn't feel like that at all. So while the SC is amazing at making the engine feel stronger, more responsive...and "react" like it's simply a bigger engine... it does not have that classic surge in torque that I personally like. Instead it makes the 5.7 feel like a much stronger 5.7, but with additional meaty torque in the 2500 to 4000 range the engine lacks otherwise.
Top end power on the unit feels a bit tame and not really inspiring. It shines 2000 to 4500 rpm honestly.

Not to mention that the isn't going to pump out the possible torque that 2 small turbos will do.

Now the rotrex is different all together. It doesn't have ever of these feelings. Instead if just makes the stock engine increase in power as rpm rises. Very linear and does not have characteristic "boosted" feeling to it either. Rather it just feels like the stock engine on steroids.

Drive a tuned raptor and you'll laugh at SC "torque" under 3000 rpm on a v6

In my opinion here's how I see it playing out.

PD SC: maximum effectiveness is going to be in the 2000 to 5000 rpm range, and useable during any daily driving. Almost guarantee MPG loss everywhere

Rotrex: maximum effectiveness 3500+ rpm and making it a 1rst through 3rd gear king. Not really effective at highway rpm. Minimal if any mpg loss

Twin turbo: 2000+ rpm in any gear but highly variable depending on throttle position. Locked in 6th and cranking just a few psi you'll never leave 6th. Possibly overkill in power at high rpm due to this trucks weird gear ratios. Also doesn't cost the engine anything to make. Torque can be hard to control, because after a certain throttle angle you're at max torque, and changing that position doesn't change torque. No mpg loss, mpg gain is possible.

Seriously interested in seeing top mount setup development. Maybe consider a dedicated thread not advertising or selling anything just showing progress?

This sort of pushes me towards the SC as I think about it, provided it adds enough torque. I’m not looking for that seat of the pants kick when the turbo spools up. I’m looking for the power between 2000 and 4500 for towing.

My wife’s Bimmer is the classic 6 turbo, and those guys spool mighty fast, there’s hardly any delay. My Macan spooled pretty fast too. My cayman on the other hand is NA, and the power just builds and builds.

For my Taco, I just want the power to navigate routine traffic, street and highway with about 5k lbs behind me without being a hazard. This isn’t daily, barely monthly. But it would also be nice to not have ‘Oh Shit’ moments when pulling out in traffic. Right now it can be a little disheartening waiting for the engine to get to 3500+ before there’s some real acceleration. I don’t need the classic SC whine either.

If the rotrex behaves much like a SC, perhaps that might be in the cards. But if the SC hp/tq numbers are sufficient, that might be my direction just for simplicity.

I really like what Mat’s done with the tune, and it’ll be a hard choice for me to pick between an OVTune’d Magnusson, and his SC or TT kit.

Really need some solid dyno numbers to compare everything.

I definitely want to develop a top mount solution. After seeing what this engine can do with the mid mounts, which is not the most ideal setup on any car...a top mounted TT setup on this truck is going to be scary good. And what I really want to offer. (Not the Lexus ones.. Lexus wanting $3500 per turbo for these is a joke in a joke)

This engine just loved every ounce of boost I gave it. I have probably 100+ dyno logs and it just couldn't get enough of it. Even with this compression ratio with 93 octane the ignition was beautiful and the engine SCREAMS boost

I took the engine to 7500 rpm in boost lol it just doesn't stop. I pulled the plugs checked the bores, etc, loves it.

FYI speaking of that... my trucks spark plugs were loose from toyota. Like not even hand tight...

@OVTune after installing my dump tubes today I can't see how the hell a turbo will fit on the drivers side like the Lexus, if you can make it fit there, you are a certified wizard.
