You can just barely make mine out, I can get a better picture if you want.

I personally would recommend a Kenwood over Pioneer unless you are planning to spend the extra cash on a capacitive touch screen. The Pioneers models that are on the low and midrange are noticeably slower when using their functions and changing screens. I've had both and will use Kenwood from now on. Both will be better than stock though.

What price range, what options do you want? Also, are you comfortable with doing wire work, soldering, etc?

If you dont need the option of playing DVDs and CDs, the DMX7706s or DMX9706s.

I have the DDX6705s, which has been replaced with the DDX6706s. If you need CD play, then try either the DDX6706s or DDX8706s.

I recommend Crutchfield, since they include adapters and mounting pieces. Basically you'll end up with all the parts you need for the install. I didnt go with maestro and instead used the Crux SWRTY-61n, everything still works, I saved about $100, but dont have the extra info screens the Maestro has, but I didnt need them.

I've got the Pioneer w8400 in my truck and the w4400 in my shop. Love them both. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto is wonderful.

You can't go wrong with Kenwood or Pioneer. I install tons of both and they're both fine. I personally don't like Kenwood's menu layout, but I'm used to the pioneer menu so that's understandable. I can't say I notice much of a speed difference in the two when equal-price models are compared. My wife has the older Pioneer 1330 in her car, and it was the cheapest model with CarPlay. It's still very snappy and responsive. But no negative experiences with Kenwood either.

Make sure to update the software ASAP on whatever you go with. These radios sit in boxes for months after being manufactured and lots of new firmware gets put out for them in the first few months of life (as well as after phone software updates)

    All the things!
I have no intent (at the moment) of upgrading my HU, but are there any models that maintain the factory truck controls? For example, the door unlock controls (unlock only drivers or all doors with smart handle).

Any model that supports the iDataLink Maestro RR. That will integrate all the controls from the factory radio, as well as maintain the screen between the gauges.

Pioneer W4500 ($699) and all parts will run right at $1000, and Best Buy is currently doing free labor on radios. That would be about the top end you could get. Lot's or kenwoods and pioneers will be cheaper, depending on the features you want.
Parts will be the same no matter what, $250-$280ish

Just wanted to throw out my $0.02

I installed a Kenwood DX99???? in a 2007 Jeep JK a few years back. The HU only lasted maybe 4 years before it died. I'm not an expert installer. But I am an electrician. And have been doing custom installs an almost every vehicle I've owned. I didn't do a lot of research on the HU before the install. I purchased the HU based on the features that I wanted. I did do a lot of research on the HU after the install to learn more about how to operate it. Well, I started seeing information about the cooling system for this HU in relationship to the Forced Air Cooling Fan on the unit itself (Note that my research is related to install in a JK, in very cramped conditions). Research indicated that this HU had a problem with ventilation (It needed very good ventilation). So I did go back and make sure that it had all the air-space that could possibly be offered for this install. So, I believe that I lost this HU due to the cramped installation and poor air circulation around the unit. Research showed that the heat build-up would cause the cooling fan to fail. Consequently, the HU would overheat and fail. The install for the Taco could be different? But, for me, I've decided to only consider Air Cooled Units for the near future. And avoid Forced Fan Cooled Units.

Hey, hows the Pioneer DMH-1500NEX? I've had my eyes on that for a while. My main focus is a device that's good with Apple Carplay

I'm sure it's fine. I've done the avh-1550 and 1440 several times, as well as the previous models. Have a avh-1330 (step down, previous year) in my wife's car and it works great

Will all of the features of an SR 2018 still work if I install an avh 1550? Backup camera, steering wheel controls, etc? I installed an aftermarket radio years ago and lost the ability to use the steering wheel volume buttons. Never again. Thought? Thanks!

They will work as long as you get the proper parts to make them work. The maestro RR is the typical route that (when paired with the correct harness) will keep all functions up and running
