2019 2.7 runs rough when cold

@1776Taco I've noticed something similar since day 1 with my 2016 SR 4x4 4cyl auto trans. I bought it brand new. It goes away before I get out of my neighborhood. So I just ignore it and remember that the Toyota 2.7L is about as bulletproof of a motor that exists in the world.

 

I had 2 2nd Gens and now a 2019 2.7...they all sounded like someone threw a handful of nuts and bolts in the top of the motor when cold. The new automatic truck shifts like shit till it warms up too. I don't question their reliability for a second. I've put hundreds of thousands of miles on 4 banger Tacomas and they've never let me down. But I've never had any sputtering, just a little hesitation.

 

Hopefully mine is simple as a air / fuel ratio adjustment or wacky sensor needing replacement. Hoping for nothing serious. First Toyota ever , and first brand new truck ever

 

I’d be shocked if it was anything crazy, theres not a lot of talk about this engine because it’s basically trouble free.

 

Might have to leave it overnight at the dealer so they can drive it cold. I'd try to catch it acting up on video if possible too. Sucks you're having a bad experience, hopefully it's something simple like you said.

In the name of science I'll take off in mine right away in the morning with no warmup. I usually let it idle for 30-45 seconds and then baby it till it warms up. I'll let you know if it acts funny.

 

I have a 2017 4cyl mt and i get in and go every morning and it runs flawless from the gitgo. Been in the 20’s for a couple weeks now in the am.

Reid Vapor Pressure of gasoline.
It's what they manipulate for summer and winter blends. Summer blend(lower RVP)when it's too cold may cause the symptoms you describe.

 

Looks like Virginia switches sometime in September...
When's the last time you filled up?
I'd try a different brand of gas and use 91 E10.
91 E10 will have more ethanol(9-10%) than 87 E10 and thus allowed a 1 psi higher allowance on RVP.

 

Just filled up again today. Used shell premium 93 octane

 

After sitting for 2 days and temps in the low 50's I started mine this morning and drove it immediately, it sounded a little extra trashy but it was definitely running smooth. Mines new like yours (750 miles) so yeah I'd say something is definitely up with your truck.

 

Mine never sounds trashy. Just runs like crap when cold

 

Had a chance to see how 93 does?

 

so yesterday I had abut 1/8 of a tank left over . It was 87 octane from BP. So I decided to fill up at shell and get premium 93 octane. Drove around 16 miles then parked it last night. This morning , fired it up, and intentionally took off immediately. It ran fine with no hiccups. And I put about 1/2 throttle in it trying to amplify the problem while recording to show you guys. First time it’s never done it. I’ll let you know what happens again tomorrow morning.

 

I have a 2019 4x4 auto 2.7 with 12,000 miles. When the truck sits overnight, it will hesitate/surge for at least 15-20 seconds. After that it runs perfect. I took it to the dealer and asked if they could check for codes and trans fluid. They said no codes and the trans is a sealed unit. I also tried two tanks of premium, I wish they had an answer.
